mighty.grey.eagle Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Did anyone manage to get all of the BBC archive? We only managed the news items and "WW2 Peoples War". Wouldn't mind a look at the rest. Also. Has anyone got anything useful out of the "WW2 Peoples War"? Seems to consist of a load of XML.
Irazmus Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I got it all, not yet told the teachers though, I'm saving it as a surprise. If you wanted a copy I could stick the files on our webserver and you can download them overnight/weekend.
mighty.grey.eagle Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 If you wanted a copy I could stick the files on our webserver and you can download them overnight/weekend. Yes please . Just let me know where.
tosca925 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I'd be interested too if it is also possible to get these from you?
Irazmus Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Uh-oh, I have a feeling the schools webserver is going to get ganked. Oh well, it'll be a good test for her As long as no-one downloads during school hours, I'm sure we can handle it. Not too sure E2BN will like it, but I could care less about that ^^ I'll stick them on the server tomorrow and get back to you with a URL. @_Bat_: The BBC, the bfi, Channel 4 and the Open University set up the Creative Archive Licence Group in April 2005 to make their content available for download under the terms of the Creative Archive Licence, a single, shared user licence scheme for the downloading of moving images, audio and stills. The content we've got is from the BBC's trial which has now ended. When I checked it I think it was 6-8GB and 75,000+ files. WW2 Peoples War (the only file I have with me) alone has 55,549 files ^^;
Geoff Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I can mirror the files if your server can't cope.
plexer Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Otherwise how about some swapping of DVD+-R's? Conference coming up etc... Ben
john Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I have some of them, some downloads failed / borked at some point, I crippled the internet connection all day, I set 3 PCs download 2 lots each and left them all day and night :twisted: hehe, "no the internets fine today" HEHE
Ric_ Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I grabbed the lot but I don't have anywhere to dump them. Anyone needing it near Poulton-le-Fylde is welcome to pop down with a DVD or two to get a copy.
Irazmus Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Well my memory was slightly out, it's only 56,050 files. All six zips (and the licence) are now on our VLE. Please try not to download them during school hours for obvious reasons, but feel free to destroy my bandwidth overnight ^^ @Geoff: Cheers, that's probably a good idea, although I'll be rather interested to see just how well this old server holds up.
plexer Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I think I'll download Histoty 2 first Histoty 2 (1.3GB) [CRC 9427497B] Ben
Geoff Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Please try not to download them during school hours for obvious reasons Use mod_cband to control this: http://cband.linux.pl
Geoff Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 All six zips (and the licence) are now on our VLE. The link to the zips are broken.
Irazmus Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 @Geoff: Do you mean http://smsnet.stowmarketmiddle.suffolk.sch.uk/mod/resource/view.php?id=6 or the individual zips themselves? Everything works fine from here and was working externally last time I checked from home. I'll check again this evening.
Geoff Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 It appears to of sprung into life again. Previously I was getting a '503 Bad Gateway' error. Presumably you use a reverse proxy.
Geoff Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ah well, I guess the hillarious amount of bandwidth at my disposal destroyed it.
_Bat_ Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 These downloads keep borking Every single one of them failed eventually last night and the same happened a few days ago at school. I'm gonna try one at a time now and see what happens. Did anyone else have this trouble?
john Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 They have all been taken down as far as I know as the trial is over
_Bat_ Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Yeah, I mean the ones that were mirrored on a school web server. They keep failing about half way through, each one of them . It's not my internet connection cos I stayed late at work one night to do it and it failed there too.
Ric_ Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 @_Bat_: Where in the country are you? I have a copy of the ZIPs and license which I can put onto a CLEO-accessible web server... it doesn't help you if you aren't in CLEO though.
