Don't think this method will work if your school has respectable students, but in our school I am sure a rule in the school hand book says... If it ain't nailed down, a sixth former will pinch it.

We ebayed about 200 or some silly number of SATA leads, a tonne of IDE leads and also a joblot of IEC power leads ("kettle leads"). We also had some spare stuff like camera batteries etc that we were never going to use. ITWombat, i'd suggest e-bay...someone'll want them! We /did/ have one of the old RM System base servers that ran NT4 along with an old RM proxy server running NT4 also, and if i remember correctly the old RM CC2.5 server. The LEA came and took them away for us

garthsmojo Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 If you give old IT equipment to staff or pupils, no mater what you say or give them in writing, you and your school are liable for any problems arising from this equipment. ie electrocution, fire etc. If you sell the equipment you are responsible for the end of life and weee regulations as well as any faults. It is much safer to either sell the items to an IT trader / asset recover company or donate it to charity / waste managment group. You also find most equipment for schools must be used till it is of no further use. If it has a value for resale then it should have a value of use for your students.

They take any thing working or not along with cables keyboards mice etc at no charge. you just ring them on 01254 726303 and they collect within a couple of days. They take on all responsiblities and fullfill all your weee requirements.
enjay Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 re. power cables - you could try the organisations which re-use equipment in developing countries - I remember that Computer Aid International recently appealed for power cables (and keyboards and mice), as loads of people donate PCs but not the bits that go with them. It is a shame that manufacturers still include all these cables, though - printers don't come with USB cables as the manufacturers assume that we have one by now, but still they come will power leads?
