My OH wants an mp3 player for crimbo, but not an ipod!! Not fussed about price, but not hundreds of pounds. Needs good quality sound as he is a bit of an audiophile and the ability to use explorer to drag and drop tracks. He was looking at sandisk players.

Thanks!

I know you said no Ipod's but.....

The new Ipod Shuffle is stupidly good. Well built, small, and it has a morse code system on a clicker next to a headphone (I can change tracks whilst cycling with thick gloves on).

I liked my Sony mp3 player before it went walkies....

If you don't want an iPod then i think the best think would be a creative Zen :) there amazing pieces of kit and i am sure he would love it :) not that expensive either.

I can vouch for the Zen too, sound quality is good even through a tape deck convertor in my car. Just remember to keep hold of the driver disk though and maybe copy it. I haven't been able to find working drivers on the Internet yet and luckily found my disk.

I've got a SanDisk Sansa clip, excellent little player. It supports FLAC (which is meant to be CD quality) aswell as MP3. The new version can also take a MiniSD card.

It might be worth loooking at one of these and getting some good headphones aswell.

Thanks for starting this thread as I'm thinking about replacing my iPod nano as I'm getting fed up with itunes. I've even considered putting a 4GB memory card in that and seeing how it does.

I have a Sandisk Sansa e280 with 8GB microSDHC card and the Rockbox firmware, which I use to play FLACs (the audiophile's choice of file format) and I find it to be a terrific setup. I've heard good things about the iRiver and Cowon iAudio players too - advancedmp3players.co.uk have a lot of choice, you should be able to find something to suit there...

The Zune is here if you look on Amazon but apparently some of the functionality will only work in the USA.

Saved me a job. OH and Mother-In-Law would like one as well.
