Software issues with latest updates.

Ok i have a strange question, do any of you have any problems running educational software on the latest service pack updates etc? i mean failing to run etc most of the schools i visit have xp sp2 ie6 yes ie6.

 

i want to update all to latest updates inc ie8 my boss says there could be issues if its not broke dont fix it,but as more educational software is getting better and needing updates im kinda stuck as what to do.

 

my outlook would be to install the lot and test it if it does not work revert back.

 

i would like your opinions please

We are having big problems running Sam Learning through IE8 at the moment. The flash player messes up and therefore can't use Sam Learning correctly!

In the primary schools we use espresso and educational city for web base and espresso can be a pain with flash.

We're running XP Pro SP2 wth IE7 across the school. There were issues surrounding SP3 with some machines/software when it came out and we have never installed it. IE7 requires tweaks to GPO, but it wasn't an issue.

 

I just haven't had time to look at IE8 and am in no hurry at the moment.

I've got 3 Primary schools on SP3 + IE8 and no-one has logged any problems. I've just taken over another that I'm fairly sure is mainly IE7 (at the moment I'm mainly fire-fighting there, but I think the flames are almost out!).

 

If you have time, upgrade 1 machine and test it. IMHO that's what will take the time, as you're the only one who is likely to test each program for issues.

SP3 and IE8 site-wide without any issues.

 

Deploy your standard image to a spare hard disk, update it to IE8 and SP3 and test software as an administrator, teacher and pupil. See what breaks. Check software vendors for patches. Test again.

Thanks for your comments once i got on top of everything (last techie got very lazy) i will certainly deploy image on a redundant pc update and test.

 

If all goes well i will image that and drop it on the rest.

We are still IE6 here but XP SP3 without major issues.
