USB Autorun

I want to create an autorun file for a display screen that when the usb is plugged in it launches a ppsx on the usb pen.

 

I have tried writing an autorun.inf but i cant get it to open the ppsx file. I have also tried autoit but i dont know what im doing

 

If anyone could help would be appreciated.

Yeh i know but its for a display screen that im going to be setting up with one of the small atom pcs attached to the back and i dont want to have to have a keyboard and mouse. Its not even going to be on the network.

Burn it to a CD? Or copy it to the machine and place a shortcut in the Startup folder for when you logon.

its going to need be edited every couple of days with new info and will be done by one of the girls in the office not me, just trying to make it as easy as possible for them!! So they only have to save the powerpoint to the usb pen as 1.ppsx and plug it in and it starts working.

USBDLM - USB drive letter manager - USBDLM can do interesting things with autorun and can be used to triger different programs dependent on the contents of the drive.

 

IIRC the key commands are OnArrival and FileExists.

Have you tried:

[autorun] 
open=filename.ppsx

 

or if that doesn't work:

[autorun] 
open="c:\program files\microsoft office\office12\POWERPNT.exe" /O File filename.ppsx

That should work.

 

But be aware of that Autorun is permanently disabled in Windows 7 when using with USB flash drives. It only works with optical media like CDs and DVDs. Microsoft has done this changes in Windows for security reasons. Some dangerous viruses have used USB flash drives to infect computers.

The removal of Autorun will make computers more safe from viruses etc, but of course, using Autorun to start programs or open documents on USB flash drives will not work anymore.

You can only open certain file extensions with autorun files... try having it run a batch file which opens the power point.

 

Or have you thought about xibo, apparently that supports inputting of power point files.

Hi

 

LCC have instructed our school to disable autorun on usb as it spreads viruses. It got that bad here I had to set up virus scans on inserting usb devices for staff and students.
