App for Managing Tasks? (as in things to do! ;)

Can anyone recommend me an app for keeping track of tasks, projects, things to do etc? I don't like outlooks Task List!

If you have a helpdesk, use that. I raise support calls on ours for every task I need to do, that way I get nagged if I haven't done it, as I check the helpdesk pretty much constantly when I'm in the office.

I use Request Tracker and Tomboy.

 

RT is general "thing needs doing" and can push rss feeds and email

In Tomboy (personal wiki notes thing), I have Stuff for today / Stuff for this month / Stuff for year pages). Tomboy notes get synched to the IT Wiki once they're finished because Tomboy tends to contain "how will we do $thing" / projects and any documentation / test stuff I don't want the PFY to use in production yet - often because I haven't (yet) documented a Danger Will Robinson! element.

Not quite sure what you mean? It is online as oppossed to a desktop app but there is a free plan that does more than I need and I am sure most people would need.

Well with the likes of MLH you pay for it, and that is it. You only have to pay more if you want the upgrades.

Another vote for SpiceWorks - I have started to log everything - certainly makes my 'to do' list alot easier. [ Plus there is nothing more satisfying than closing a ticket !! ] Plus exporting all the tickets etc to a .PDF and e-mailing that to your bursar........

Depends what you want helpdesk is My Little Helpdesk but I tried using that for all my EG/non-work stuff stuff but was bit to large for that so in end i went to Evernote and tagging.

Depending on your needs, this may be overkill, bet I find ThinkingRock GTD very useful for tracking personal projects / work items. If you need to share the tasks with others then a service desk type solution makes more sense.

 

Also, http://www.rememberthemilk.com/ is popular in the Web 2.0 world and integrates with lots of other systems. Probably an app for it...

For a non hosted web based system (aka, you need to host it yourself) TaskFreak is quite a nice free package.
