Tried using Spiceworks the other week - uninstalled it after 1 hour. Found it to be a jack of all trades, master of nothing. The initial home page is too 'loud' with too much on there IMO. Sticking with Liberum for the helpdesk and will try and find another solution for inventory/stock management software in the school.

Well I stuck with it, spent quite a few hours on it over the weekend [ from home - good old port forwarding ] - now setup alerting what it should. Today got the workstations to be seen, setup a few more range of scans & almost finished the user's portal page.

Two days of hard testing [ give me time to knock up a few 'how tos' ] and I will happily use this from now on.....

I'm looking to install Spiceworks, but am not sure if it's something that will sit on the server, or do I ideally need a separate PC to host it?

I have it running on one of the servers here. If you have one that isn't so heavily used, then put it there, otherwise you can run it from a PC aswell.

 

4.5 has just been released with some great new features. The queue system will be helpful.
