Messages via desktop wallpaper

I've been asked (and done it) by our Literacy co-ord here to produce a There/Their/They're wallpaper for all the students as part of our literacy push, so got me thinking, does anyone else do this (messages on desktop?) and what sort of stuff do you use.

 

I went through a phase last year of doing a different wallpaper every day with interesting items taken from Wikipedia's "What happened today page" That lasted about a month then got students creating daily Christmas themed backgrounds for December.

 

So what have you got?

We do, but they're ridiculously cheesy motivational messages or quotes by people the students will never have heard of, chosen by a member of SMT.

 

I like the their/they're/there one, would like to put that out for pupils AND staff! Maybe a bought and brought one too

Feel free to use/modify it as needed, I've got the original xcf file for gimp if you'd find that useful.

 

I'll be putting together some other ones, but am waiting for requests from the Lit/Eng dept.

We do messages aswell as 'theme of the week'.

 

Our messages are reminders more than anything ie. After school clubs etc. or whatever the head decides he wants.

Do you just copy the image out to the C: drive and set it as the wallpaper?

 

I've found the group policy wallpaper settings to be unreliable in the past.

we have done themes in the past (for Xmas) but we tend to leave one general dekstop theme and then push messages and photos of events and activities via our custom screensaver. The screensaver is then there for staff and students during the day and then we can use this mechanism to display info when there are parents activities on in the evenings.

Are you setting this as a image or html file? because won't a image file get cached around for awhile?

I push it via GPO with a UNC route to a share, do find some images get cached, but a quick cache re-initialise tends to take care of that.

Just a .bmp or do you use active desktop with .jpgs? That's what seemed to give me the issues.
