Sys tray notifications

In the Sys tray there is an application icon showing that is not active ie. it only notifies when it is active. The application in question is not listed in Control Panel - Installed applications. Does this actually mean that the application is not installed? (runs from an executable when double clicked) If so how do I get rid of the icon as I have no intention of running the app again.

 

I hope that someone knows what I am talking about.

Can you supply a screenshot? Might be immensely helpful.

Usually that would imply the program isn't installed and is self-contained...

 

Anything that's ever been in the sys tray usually appears if you click the up arrow and hit customise... you could then choose to either how you want to show the icon (or not)

Screen shot attached - I think. The app in question is the one at the bottom. Is there any way of taking it off altogether, or does it just sit there waiting for a call that never comes?

You might find that it appears in msconfig under "startup"... if it starts up...

 

otherwise you can choose to "always hide" it and you'll never the icon/notifications... but it'll always 'be there'

I kind of knew as I double-clicked that I really shouldn't, not on a fresh install of my shiny new Windows 7. It will now be forever blighted by lack of forethought. Lesson to be learnt, the hard way (as usual) for me. Thanks anyway for trying to help.

You could try searching the registry for it... most things that are anywhere in Windows exist somewhere in the registry.
