Hi,

I have a problem with Exchange. For some reason it has stopped sending and receiving emails.

"Just to add i have had to re-install SMTP service. Someone suggested running domain and forest prep again?!"

I have checked the smart host.

Any ideas?!

I'm guessing there was something in the event logs yesterday that led to you being able to start IIS again (as you clicked the thank button on my suggestion but didn't post a reply)?

What did the event log say?

When you said in your OP you had to re-install the SMTP service, do you litterally mean re-install via control panel, or do you mean restart the service?

What version of Exchange are you running?

Are you fully up to date with Windows/Microsoft Updates?

(Sorry - lots of questions!)

Check you SMTP connector in system manager if your running exch 2003 to ensure that your smart host is selected or hasn't changed. It may have affected the settings when you removed smtp service.

Also download exchange best practises analyser on the server and run the test this will alert you of any potential issues with ways to resolve them.

you can download it from here:
