I have real problems accessing EduGeek through any kind of proxy. Whenever I do, I get bits of content missing (mainly images). Worse, the forums page appears without any forums listed - so I can't start any new threads.

It's been like this for months now, hence me not posting much recently. The only place I can get EduGeek properly is at home through domestic BT broadband.

I've tried several places:-

* My main school (North Yorks proxy + Smoothwall)

* Another school (North Yorks Proxy only)

* Local charity I work for (Smoothwall only)

It's the same through them all. I've tried different browsers and refreshing them - makes no difference.

I'm posting this from home, just so I can start the thread. If there's no suggestions by tomorrow, I'll add some screen shots from the school.

Thanks ZH, but I don't think it's specifically Smoothwall causing the problem. One of the sites with the problem just has the LA's firewall & proxy, and no Smoothwall.

Smoothwall in the school has a policy set to allow everything for my account. The realtime logs confirm that nothing from edugeek (or any other domain) is getting blocked for me.

Is it just me? Has anyone else had this? When it appeared a few months ago, I thought it would just clear up eventually, but it never did.

Not sure if North Yorks is on YHGfL or not - in any case the symptoms don't look like it's a grid issue. If the grid was blocking the display would be different, you'd get a page from them with info. Plus YHGfL have as far as I know given Edugeek the all clear.

From the screen shots it appears to be just the top bar that's not being displayed properly (place holders for all the graphics). Does the menu line, just under where the tabs should be) work?

Weird I get this for our VLE I think its to do with network traffic issues on our end though, doing a tracert atm to see where our slowdown is. I have no problems with Edugeek thoguh

tom is closest. I think your using a old theme. The main menubar is made up of individual images now not one (for ages now).

Can you tell me what theme you have and I will fix/disable the theme?

cheers

I had you on speaker-phone when i called your Line the other day and my tech and I were heh its The Queen that answers Tom's phone :) So by Queen I was meaning HRH The Queen not any other type of "queen" before Kerst wants to murder me. AS you were out I had to make do with Gav you know ;) He was his excellent usual helpful self though confirming a feature was in teh new FP for Oct :) So thanks to Gav :).

Anyway back on topic, I think you maybe suffering from Cache as I do at home, I don't get Edubuy buttons on any page but the front but I do get them on my laptop.

OMG, what bugs are these lol. I have never had an issue anywhere like this nor heard of anyone having it till now. What theme do you use on that pc john? (look at the bottom left of the page for the name)

If the frontpage works but the forums dont that can be explained by the frontpage being a set theme and cant be overriden by cookies etc where as you have choice on the forums.

EG: V4.0.0.1 Non-Tabbed - Verdana is what I have on my home PC and have no edu-buy buttons, but I get them at work and my netbook so always assumed it was cache and as I don't edu-buy at home wasn't worried about it

I've tried ctrl+f5, but it didn't fix it. I've also tried different browsers (IE / Chrome / Firefox) but it makes no difference.

I'm using v4.0.0.1 tabbed trebuchet MS at home (the only place EG works for me).

Does the theme roam with the account, or does it just stay with the machine you're using? I'll look when I get back to the school.

It's fixed. I was using theme EG: V4.0.0.1. Tabbed - Verdanna at school. I've changed it to Trebuchet MS, the same as at home, and it all works again.

I've got the forums page back and can start posting from work again.

If you switch back does the problem reoccur?

I tested all the themes last night at home and all worked for me. The prefence is stored in cookies but can be forced in usercp.

No... I've switched back to Verdana and it all still works - the problem has gone.

Other funny things were happening: like the blank box where the EduGeek logo should be was linking to /forums/ instead of the home page.

Anyway, it's all working now. It still doesn't explain why is was happening from three locations. If it reappears I'll just change the theme.

In my usercp the forum skin is set as forum default, if this is any help.

Let me know if you have the issue again. I have made some changes to the older templates to attempt to fix the issue so it should hopefully not be an issue again.

Cheers
