Office machines reimaging cycle?

Just out of interest really, we all seem to have a yearly cycle of reimaging for our classroom PCs but what's your timeline for admin staff \ office PCs?

 

They're nearly always in use and usually a bit more scattered around and sometimes have custom software installed so for me anyway they're more of a nuisance. Also tends to be more machine types as we order them in small numbers rather than room-sized batches.

 

Any views on this one?

Every semester for us.

 

We have roaming profiles, and the students know to back their data up to their network share not the desktop / etc.

 

Give notice 2 weeks in advance (last 2 weeks of the semester) that all data will be wiped from the machines if they don't back it up to the proper locations.

I've never reimaged unless the OS is malfunctioning, in either classrooms or offices. With the machine locked down in the right way, I've never seen any benefit in doing so.

Tend not to do much with the Admin PCs its usualy when they have issues or get replaced unless there is strong grounds to EG our Win 7 upgrade program.

Classroom PC's every main holiday unless some really urgent comes up then half term or won't Boot. Admin PC’s only if they won’t boot or have a major issue.

Admin PCs rarely get re-imaged, only if there's a problem or majopr changes that need to be made.

 

My classroom PCs only get re-imaged when it's absolutely necessary as well. We update the images every year to include all the latest patches and updates, but we don't re-image the lot as we don't have the time - the new image will slowly work it way out there as machines malfunction or are replaced.

Looks like I'm not the only one who leaves the offce machines well alone then!

 

It just bugs me that although WSUS patches them and major app updates get pushed out via SMS they're never completely identical due to different base images, batches of machines etc... maybe I want too much

I'm leaving mine well alone atm due to the fact people seem to like saving to the C drive far to much. Next term's project is to ease them off this habbit and get them to start saving to the server.

 

Might require a couple of demonstrations as to why this is a good idea to get the message across (if I can build up enough courage).

my admin machines hardly get reimaged ... only when there is a serious problem with them, the speed of them is unbearable, or we upgrade os or change a considerable amount of software.

I hardly ever re-image the office PCs - tend to buy them new ones every few years and get them imaged while they struggle on their old crappy ones. Smooth transition that way.
