I've finally found a screen res changer that works with a hotkey: Netbook Resolution Customizer

I needed something to do this as one of my schools want to run CrazyTalk (which only runs on 1024x768 and above) and to change to that mode required a lot of key fiddly mouse movements/key presses.

With this utility, I've set it do Alt-PgUp switches to 1024x768 and ALt-PgDn goes back to normal 1024x600.

I've enabled the downscaling as well but I'm not sure if the squashed display will be suitable in real use with pupils - I'll need to experiment.

Its got the facility to auto change resolution depending on program run but I haven't got it fully working yet.

regards

Simon

How do I access this utility please? I have a netbook HP Dot S2 and this sounds ideal. When I click on the link in the message I get a general website with no info. Hope you can help

We use qres to get this done, you can write a batch file to run it. Sets 1024x768 as default, but using widescreen resolution for some of our laptops. I set a variable in the system variables on each laptop, so it can tell what to set the resolution at. Sure there are other ways to do this. Example batch file below:

if "%Location%" == "TOSH_LAPTOP_SUITE" goto TOSH

if "%COMPAQ_615%" == "YES" goto COMPAQ

if "%HP620%" == "YES" goto HP620

rem set default screen res

qres.exe /x 1024 /y 768

goto endif

:TOSH

qres.exe /x 1280 /y 800

goto endif

:COMPAQ

qres.exe /x 1366 /y 768

goto endif

:HP620

qres.exe /x 1366 /y 768

goto endif

:endif

The domain netbooksky.com has expired, and a cybersquatter took its spot. You are looking at the cybersquatter's search page. It commonly happens with any domain that has had any significant popularity.

It would have been nice to have features for other video output displays, but the makers wouldn't be too happy about that. Intel probably threatened NetbookSky with a legal suit. That kind of hacking involves reverse engineering the drivers, and putting a low level memory patch, tricking the video driver to output to a virtual monitor of a set dimension, then the virtual monitor program puts the image out to the screen. Size and refresh is dependent on the memory and its speed. It's been done once before on the Mac- there was a control panel utility for Mac Plus - it required a piggyback memory module to handle the requirements. Since these netbooks have well over 512K of RAM, it'd be nice to see a utility like that again.

We have our own written program for this kind of thing not sure if I can upload EXE's to this site though I'll try to attach an image.

Its a run only app that has 3 buttons as soon as you open it, 800-600, 1024-768 - 1280-1024

Works with any GPU.

If anyone wants a look at it let me know.

Thanks for uploading the program. I tried to upload the program to change my settings yet I can only change to the 800 x 600 setting. I also tried to search the registry for Display1_DownScalingSupported but I cannot find even a single item about it. Need help. My netbook is Gateway LT 22 AMD Anthlon II and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225.

hi serviceman, hehe

ive tried your resolution changer on a 1015p eeepc.

unfortunately it doesnt downscale the offered resolutions, but it upscales 800*600.

i set the regwords to 1 ( display1_downscaling_enabled and ..._supported).

its not an outdated driver issue, ive installed the latest availlable for winxp (intel gma 3150) from intel homepage.

i have no idea....

astray ( about every version from 1.3beta to latest) works, " netbook resolution costumizer" works, almost everything availlable works, but only for 1024*768.

after that, no downscaling. :(

im sooo sad.

this eee came with win7 starter, the strange updated driver , and the option to choose

1152*864.

of course i killed win7 right away, cause i hate it, and besides the 2G maximum RAM suggest to rather use xp instead...

point beeing : it is of course possible to interpolate 1152*768 and propably higher than that on my nice little guy.

i also tried the samsung driver with the same result.

ive googled my ass off.

nothing seems to work beyond 1024*768.

do you or does anyone else have a suggestion (a political correct one of course)?

it worked on gma 950 beautyfully. (lazertaggs drivers and such)

:violin:

i would appreciate ANY advice on this.

my tiny brain is not capaple of writing a driver.......

anyone?

Pity it only works with Intel graphics controllers... it would be quite useful otherwise!

I have an Acer Aspire 1 521 with an ADM 1.7GHz CPU. NRC of course didn't work for my net book and neither did adjusting the registry value. I just tried CPJ's Change Res software with no luck. I need my resolution to be 1024x768 to run a particular program. Can some help or direct me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Another good alternative is Reso. The shortcut it creates changes the resolution, runs the specified program and then when it's closed, changes the resolution back.

What is this .7z?

You need 7-Zip to open it.

look,i've installed win 8 and the tile apps working in 1024x768 res. and above(i have netbook). That's all the fuss about. But these apps must be html5,so probaply Reso can't do something about it.Anyway,i've tried to change resolution via regedit and my card won't allow it,so...thanks for your time

You didn't mention this previously. We can't read minds you know. :)

these apps must be HTML 5

Not that it makes a lot of difference, but Metro apps can be written in C / C++ / C# / VB + XAML or HTML/CSS + JavaScript.

probably Reso can't do something about it.

Reso wasn't designed for Metro apps.

I've tried to change resolution via regedit and my card won't allow it

I'm still confused. What exactly are you trying to achieve by changing the resolution?

Hi guys, I've been trying to change the resolution on my Acer Aspire One 250D netbook to increase it, Im using Windows 7.

I've tried the regedit fix but there was no change after I reset the machine.

I've tried ChangeRes and also the Reso and none of them work. I've updated and made sure that my video drivers are up to date and used slimdrivers to confirm that. Any other stuggestions on how to change the resolution?

The programmer of ‘NRC.exe’ “Netbook Resolution Customizer”

is not going to continue the project, as informed by email.

So the only hope, is if a another programmer can extract and update the source code of “Netbook Resolution Customizer” so it can work under Win7. Publicity is certain for the programmer who can continue the project.

“Netbook Resolution Customizer” is valuable because it is a light portable application that creates virtual resolution to the netbook, or laptop based on Intel graphics up to 1600 x 1200! Creates an expanded desktop for this, that you can navigate with the mouse. Important is that running applications like Photoshop or Lightroom , or Video applications, recognize the new resolution and work smoothly on an expanded desktop.

But “Netbook Resolution Customizer” works only in Win XP.

Note: Alternatives like freeware ‘Infinite_Screen’

[get it here from the programmer : Infinite_Screen Download Site ]

do not work, because they only only create an extended desktop, but not a virtual resolution which is the most important for the photo or video applications to work.)
