We're using 2003 servers (with all XP machines) for everything right now. Our next batch of computers will be with Windows 7. Is there any advantage to going with Server 2008 to accompany the Windows 7 machines?

well if you get the R2 version your have all the windows 7 policys on the server out of the box and not requiring you to get the policy files from the desktop, and of course more campatiable with windows 7!

yes. Mandatory profiles dont work well on 2003, neither do profile paths.

2008 allows both to run nicely.

We don't have any issues with mandatory profiles on 2003. What doesn't work?

it wasnt playing ball with our windows 7. Nothing married up the way it was supposed too (no icons appearing etc, start menu links coming up as invalid etc) we had to use one of our MS Support tickets and they spent 4 days trying to fix it). In the end we got the ticket back and upgraded to 2008 where we have had no problems what so ever.
