I have been asked today if it is possible to make Excel display an option/change colour/send an alarm if you are trying to edit an excel document you have opened as a read only.

Currently opened with Office 03 but if 07 has an option they will upgrade. (or any other suggestions welcome)

Your right but the office staff view a document all day either as read only or open the doc as per usual and then leave it open, but they want to know if there is a way it can show as a different colour/warning message when they are in it as read only.

They all work in same office.

Oh right ok, yeah this is easy. There is a vba property to find this out, been a while since I used vba but you could check the following on opening:

If ActiveWorkbook.ReadOnly Then

End If
