bigtime5001 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Hi guys, Has anyone had any luck with blocking students access to the new messenger that seems to be embedded into windows live mail accounts ?? We currently block the use of the desktop application, but many students have hotmail or live accounts, and have found they can use it directly through the microsoft livemail account. Anyone managed this ?? Thanks In advance
Avalon Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 same problem here, has anyone found a solution to this?
cookie_monster Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 We just banned email for students other than school email. I'm not sure the new livemail messenger will be very easy to block.
Arthur Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 same problem here, has anyone found a solution to this? Blocking the URLs below via a proxy server should stop them from being able to sign in to Hotmail's web-based Messenger. http://*.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com/ http://messenger.services.live.com/
EduTech Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 we block *live.co.uk *live.com *hotmail.com *hotmail.co.uk *gmail.com *googlemail.com and any other free email service providers, to force staff/students to use internal email But yeah blocking the above URL's will allow the site to work, but stop the sign in function. James.
enjay Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 It just sits saying "loading..." for me, so maybe it is already being blocked? Can someone else on RM/IFL confirm or deny this...
ianniow Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 My School Guardian box still does not let them in
