Good results so far, My Imacs are binding to AD as soon as the machine has booted normally I would have to wait a few seconds (which is far too long if you are a teacher....lol)

Thanks for the reply guys, I eventually found a link to removing the bluetooth.kext files and did it that way. Seems to work, only time will tell when the kids get their grubby little mitts on the shiny new macs....lol

Does anyone know how I can dissable Bluetooth on Imacs ? As a user they are able to turn on bluetooth, now most of the menu items the users dont have permissions to run and thats great, but if they click on Set Up Bluetooth device they are able to pair Phones etc. I need to stop the students from being able to do this as they setup teathering to iphone's etc and bypass all the school securty. Any Ideas ?

Hi guys, Anyone out there use songbird ?? What are your opinions of it ? It looks nice and seems to work fairly well. has anyone managed to get this working within a user account, I have configured it as an admin, but when I log in as a user all the prefences have changed. The plist file only seems to have the location of the network share in it and no other configuration. I think I need to copy the application into the user profiles upon login to get this working !! Any ideas

Ok maybe I was a little vague in my previous post....lol Yes the template does exist under the user profile that the settings were made (So in my case because it was configured under the local admin account its saved there. So logging in as admin and running Logic Pro everything is fine obviously because it has access to the paths where the template files etc are stored. I have tried copying the files into the shared folder and this didnt seem to do the trick, So as you suggest I think I need to create a script that will copy the template files into the user profile when a user logs onto the mac's. Sorry if I have got any of this wrong never touched a mac before 3 weeks ago and I have an IT director who is expecting a suite of 34 Macs all setup and configured by the 3rd week in FEB. Its pretty much all done apart from this last issue (but as you can imagine I was not best pleased when he dropped this bombshell on me 3 weeks ago) Thanks for any help

The template is a file that is saved under the users profile I believe, it loads all the instruments and config for logic if you have altered it from the default. I have tried copying across the plist file but that had no effect.

Hi Thanks for the reply , changing the option to often on itunes has done the trick. I am still having problems with Logic though, basicly a template has been created, now as an admin when I load Logic it loads the template and all is fine. However as a user it shows an error because it cant find the template file. I am guessing the template needs applying to the user profiles when they login or something. Any Ideas ?? Does anyone else use Logic this way ? Thanks Again

Hi guys, Anyone else had any experience trying to do this, I have a few applications that I have configured under a local admin account. I have added the plist files to the details tab for the student group within workgroup manager but when I log in as a student and run the application none of the configuration seems to be applied. for example within itunes I have made some changes to what the students can access but also set the iTunes media folder location as a network shared folder. when I log in a a student none of the itunes settings are as I saved them and the itunes media folder is set as the students home folder. Having simular problems with Logic pro aswell not saving the settings as they have been configured. I could be compleatly off base here and doing this totally wrong (can you tell I am a noob with macs...lol) Anyway anyhelp or advise would be appreciated. Thanks Matt

Hi guys, Has anyone had any luck with blocking students access to the new messenger that seems to be embedded into windows live mail accounts ?? We currently block the use of the desktop application, but many students have hotmail or live accounts, and have found they can use it directly through the microsoft livemail account. Anyone managed this ?? Thanks In advance

Dont get me wrong I have no problem with them learning the scripting language and experimenting, but I have to draw the line when there are a few who will use it to try and gain access to area's on the network or interupt the learning of other students.

Hi guys Just wanted some advice really, the ICT Teacher at our school wants blender installed on all the pc's in the ICT suite. Not a problem I have checked it and seems ok, the only issue I have is installing Python onto these machines. We do have some very bright students who allready managed to write there own program from the iTalc source code gaining access to any pc that had it installed. Should I be worrying about them using the python scripting for other "Projects" on the network ?? Thanks for any replies Matt

Just be very carefull using iTalc, although I agree its a great programme it is however open source and if a student can get access to the source code they will get up to all sorts of fun. We had a student who managed to extract the keys from a desktop, then he downloaded the sourcecode and wrote his own application which after a bit of guess work on his part for ip addresses and machine names was able to remote into classrooms all over the school. Since this we have been forced to remove iTALC from all pc`s and block it from being run on the network.

Hi guys, Just a quick question to see what your thoughts are: I am currently trying to come up with a homeserver type system for use within the school. Currently the teachers (bless them) have movies, pictures, and data all over the network. Any ideas or recommendations on this sort of thing. I was maybe thinking of using an old server with some shares setup, but thought maybe there was a better way. any ideas !!! Thanks
