Hi guys,

Has anyone had any luck with blocking students access to the new messenger that seems to be embedded into windows live mail accounts ??

We currently block the use of the desktop application, but many students have hotmail or live accounts, and have found they can use it directly through the microsoft livemail account.

Anyone managed this ??

Thanks In advance

same problem here, has anyone found a solution to this?

Blocking the URLs below via a proxy server should stop them from being able to sign in to Hotmail's web-based Messenger.

http://*.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com/
http://messenger.services.live.com/

we block

*live.co.uk

*live.com

*hotmail.com

*hotmail.co.uk

*gmail.com

*googlemail.com

and any other free email service providers, to force staff/students to use internal email :)

But yeah blocking the above URL's will allow the site to work, but stop the sign in function.

It just sits saying "loading..." for me, so maybe it is already being blocked? Can someone else on RM/IFL confirm or deny this...
