tazz Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Just asking, after careful consideration think that's the right path for me. Over how many months /year should it realistically take to get to expert level? Thanks
srochford Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I spent 3 solid days doing the foundation course - it's pretty easy but I don't really know how long it takes to get past that. Much of it seems to be about learning to use words in the way ITIL means them rather than the real world (but don't say that to your trainer; it could cause a heart attack :-))
CyberNerd Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I did the three day ITIL foundation, great course but seems it would take forever to get to practitioner. I dare say those who do complete are managers of massive datacentres and are on £££
apearce Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I really enjoyed doing ITIL. I did the 3 day foundation course and then the 5 day service support course - I recommend it for anyone. I want to do the service delivery as well - another 5 days. If you do those 2 you can sit 2 x 3 hour exams and get yourself a HND in IT Management. A. 1
cookie_monster Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 @ apearce, how much does it cost and where did you take the course? Thanks.
apearce Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I did mine with these guys - very good. Had others on the course from places like BT and Network Rail. Always good to network with these kind of people. QA – ITIL training, PRINCE2 training, Microsoft training, VMware training, management training and more – around 1500 courses throughout the UK A. 1
muppet Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I'm with apearce on the course provider (QA) I did my ITIL Foundation and Prince2 Foundation and Practitioner with them and they were excellent. Cant remember exactly what I paid but I do know that you can (and should) knock them down from their advertised price, I think I had a 20% discount on the advertised price. If you want a point of contact at QA pm me and I'll pass on my account managers details.
Kitkatninja Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I did the v3 Foundation exam by self studying with [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Passing-your-ITIL-foundation-exam/dp/011331079X]this [/ame]book over a week and sat the exam at the end of that week. Passed on the passing score, as I found it dry and boring. Choose to take the exam via EXIN instead of ISEB as it was a few quid cheaper. Not sure if I could put myself thru the other ITIL courses just because the foundation was so boring, but each to their own -Ken
sahmeepee Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 There is a self-study pack available here: ITIL V3 Foundation e-Learning Package - Buy Online at the ILX Group Store for the foundation level. It's £369 and includes the price of the exam which they reckon is £100. NB The terms say you can only use it to train one person!
steve Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I've passed the v3 foundation too. Its all about the vocabulary, endless reams of terminology.
LoisMcConnachie Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Hi All, Hope you are well. I have just launched a FREE online ITIL Foundation Quiz, it's primarily designed for those preparing to take the ITIL Foundation course/exam, and also for those who are about to take ITIL Intermediate training who need to brush up on their basic ITIL knowledge prior to attending the course. Of course, you can just take it for fun...... http://itsm-itil.groupsite.com/javascripts/tinymce-3.0.7/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-smile.gif Every time you access the quiz, 40 random questions will be selected from our question bank, so you can take it over and over again. I will also be loading new questions on a daily basis to keep it fresh. If you have any ideas for questions then please feel free to contribute. I would love to hear any constructive feedback that you may have. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you think that this could be useful to you then please follow the link https://purplegriffon.com/quizzes
Oaktech Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Wow... So I got 3 questions through that and decided I will never take ITIL because it doesn't seem to have anything to do with hands-on-keyboards IT. Actually relevant MS/VMware qualifications for me thanks.
Tall_Paul Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Another ITIL foundation-er here. I did it in 2003 and it seems it hasn't aged well (it was dry and boring then too!)
LoisMcConnachie Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Hi Oaktech, Thank you for participating in our ITIL Foundation quiz. Your feedback is much appreciated. Service Management is an increasingly important skill for everyone working in IT, whether you are a project manager, service desk analyst or a ‘hands on’ techie. Each month over 25,000 people worldwide take ITIL Foundation training and exams. In fact ITIL is on the verge of expanding beyond the IT department and into the enterprise.
LoisMcConnachie Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Hi Tall Paul, It depends on what you find boring
gshaw Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Wow... So I got 3 questions through that and decided I will never take ITIL because it doesn't seem to have anything to do with hands-on-keyboards IT. Actually relevant MS/VMware qualifications for me thanks. You should give it another try, although you're unlikely to use ITIL 100% in the way the book says some elements of it *will* help you run your services more efficiently. The ones that really stuck out to me at the time were Change Management and Processes, went straight back to work after the course and implemented those and can't imagine not doing those now. Interestingly I feel the same way about MS certs, especially the language and scenarios used in exams that are often worlds away from what you experience day-to-day.
