I have just put a new network into place at one the schools I deal with and now find myself with a bit of a problem. Staff are complaining that they cannot install BBC iPlayer as they don't have Administrator privileges and I don't want to give them to them. So does anyone know of a way of installing it without giving Staff local Administrator rights?

Install it? I didn't think the stand alone app even existed anymore. If they just go to bbc.co.uk/iplayer they get the flash version. All they need is the latest version of flash player installed and it works even with restricted accounts.

What is wrong with the flash version? they both dish up the same content as far as I can see...

There's now something called BBC iPlayer Desktop.

 

BBC iPlayer Desktop is our application that allows you to download and play our programmes on your computer so that you can watch them when you are not connected to the internet.

 

BBC iPlayer Desktop is powered by Adobe Air (Adobe Integrated Runtime). When you install BBC iPlayer Desktop you also install the Adobe Air components.

 

It runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux.

If you dont want to give them Local Administrator Rights then your only options are

 

- Install it for them?

- Tell them to stop being stupid and use the flash version

- Tell them to stop moaning or you will remove it all together

I think the installed version has the nasty peer to peer sharing software (Kontiki?) too - which will whack your internet

first of all you have to log on to the admin account, then simply install the bbc-iplayer, then you go to the guest account and go to the properties of the executable file of the installed software and then give it the authority to access by the guest account Edited May 5, 2011 by vtvictor45

ya i think so , because mostly software's are not compatible with all operating systems.
