SYNACK Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I had a weird idea the other day which I thought I might share. It is a slightly different take on the video how to idea that is getting quite common on the web now. Microvideo chains The idea is that instead of one long video that covers a process beginning to end each step is split into a seporate video and can then be strung together like a sentence. As an example something like adding a CName to DNS requires:Opening DNS snapin Expand Server tree Expand Foward lookup zone Right click and select add select CName Type in cname and enter This could all be captured as a single video then sliced up into the little parts, in future if you wanted to make one about adding an MX record you would only need that little bit to include in the video sentence. This same method could be used for all sorts of programs but would require a queueing database that was easily searchable and easily buildable upon to create the how to sentences. Web based of course Such a project would take time and effort but could yeild extremely fast and accurate customized how to videos to help people solve problems if the content was there. Anyhow, just an idea that I thought I would share incase it inspired anyone. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/27/DV_tape_sizes_2.jpg/250px-DV_tape_sizes_2.jpg
Hightower Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 So lets say every possible video was there, someone could create a how to by selecting: 1) Video 3 2) Video 243 3) Video 6123 4) Video 7 etc etc? Sounds good
SYNACK Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Yes, pretty much, the idea would be to have a nice little AJAX autocompleter to help you build the sentences so something like Choose OS > Product > Action Using VB as an example (a good one this time) Using Windows 2008 App DNS {list of actions to choose from} then just keep adding those actions in the right order. Behind the scenes it would be just as you say: 1) Video 3 2) Video 243 3) Video 6123 The end result would just be a continuous video - maybe not as smooth as a start to finnish one but infinatly more customizeable.
mac_shinobi Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 on i think ifixit.com or youtube they show you how to repair certain aspects of apple macs ( laptops especially ) how to replace DC IN board, how to replace logic board etc etc and they have split the videos into chunks If someone could do your idea for different aspects of computing ie web design servers dns dhcp programming etc each category could then have sub categories ( so not sure how that would work ) because obviously programming covers a huge variety just like servers would because even though DNS, DHCP comes under servers there is still a lot more to DNS and also DHCP so would obviously take a lot of people with know how to do the videos in the first place which would take time so would need to find willing participants like yourself lol
