Battery replacement Plexus UPS

We bought 2 Plexus UPS-1200MV from Ebuyer about 18 months ago. Both appear to have died at the same time. Disappointing! Batteries have a bulge so guess they overheated or had a fault.

 

Would like to replace battery if cost effective but dont know where to get them. Ebuyer not very helpful but tell me the model is also known as PLEX-020. Tenda owns Plexus.

 

any ideas?... UK based!

This is why I use APC. Their products are easily the best and buying replacement batteries are easy to source.

 

Rather worringly Google Shopping comes up with zero results for Plexus UPS-1200MV. Have you tried the manufacturer website?

i have to agree cheap may not have been a good policy!

At £37.99 I would just throw them out to be properly recycled and by some decent APC kit.

I wonder because it's so cheap whether you can even replace the battery at all? You could just buy another UPS at £37.99 I suppose.

Breaths sigh of relief that I asked for (and took advice from) here before buying one of those Plexus units!

Check the batteries carefully against the website below. I'll place money that they match up to one of the yuasa standards, probably in the NP range - they nearly always do. APC ones certainly do, and you can save a shedload by buying them directly and not through APC, and they are exactly the same battery!

thanks for the pointers. Yuasa do seem to have the right ones... i think it needs 2 in each ups. The battery shop told me:

 

looking at the spec sheet it looks like the batteries are NP7-12 or NP7-12L this are both available on our web site NP7-12 Yuasa 12v 7Ah Lead Acid Battery or NP7-12L Yuasa 12v 7Ah Lead Acid Battery

 

the batteries are both the same size thay just have differant size terminals.

Please check sizes before ordering.

 

Also it sounds like the batteries are being over charged.

I've had this happen with batteries in 2 APC units one summer so you're not alone. They blew up like balloons and were near impossible to remove from the units.

 

Also it sounds like the batteries are being over charged.

 

 

I take it these are in a cool room and the temperature stays fairly low? Anything much over 30deg will shorten the life of the batteries whichever make of UPS you have. Temperature was the prime cause of the failure i had some years ago and that was immediately prior to having aircon fitted to our server room and certainly helped my cause in getting this fitted in the first place.

 

Thanks for the tips on those other places to get batteries too guys as i normaly use CPC for my UPS batteries and as mine are now due for replacement due to age i'll most probably be buying them direct or from the other place posted instead as pricing looks slightly better.

it does indeed, so probably not worth replacing the baterries if there bieng over charged they will just swell and split the cells again. Also dangerous as they can release hydrogen (very explosive) gas (if there lead acid).

 

18 months dosnt seem very long for a UPS, i would complain to the manufacturer, they might offer u a replacement as a courtesy
