They're not retro - you're not trying ;)

Try...

Space Invaders

Pong

Frogger

Jetpac

Defender

Pacman

Some of the most addictive games ever, yet the most basic 2D sprite 4 colour graphics available. Bliss :D

Another World and sequel Flashback were two great titles... lemmings was highly addictive with minimal graphics, and I believe has been re-done for mobile platforms recently.

Worms is also an interesting one - you can see the evolution from an old 2D game into a modern 3D extravaganza, but little of the gameplay has changed, and arguably the 2D one was better (especially since I am a member of one of the default teams - one of the designers on Armageddon is a good mate of mine ;)).

Never completed that Dizzy... Treasure Island (Amiga version) OTOH...

Never got into the other Dizzy games. Fantasy World though - 4 colour 8bit graphics and upside down world - fun!

Day of the tentacle

Ultimate Soccer Manager

Worms

As for ROTT Drunk missiles and Shrooms For the Win :D

Im not sure ROTT would go so well in schools! Although iirc it does have that handy feature that you press a key combo and it displays a screen shot of a DOS prompt :D

For those who can't wait to get back to Melee island... ScummVM :: Home is a reworked interpreter for the old games. Also does other P&C classics like Flight of the Amazon Queen, Beneath a Steel Sky (underrated IMO) etc.

Finished monkey1 again last year. Might have to do it again. Love that game. Will try and hunt out the interview with Ron Gilbert (is that the fella?) regarding the new Monkey stuff coming out soon.

I downloaded the special edition yesterday on Steam. It still makes me laugh. Also downloaded episode 1 of the new serialised game. Probably the best monkey game since MI2.

I don't know it this will be in the Monkey Island remake, but it sure works in the original Atari ST (probably Amiga and PC too)....

Let Guybrush drown when he gets thrown into the water...

It takes 5 or 10 minutes real time and AFAIK is the only place you can actually die in MI.
