eSafety Ofsted Inspection

Hello,

 

Next week we are going to have an Ofsted eSafety Inspection.

 

Has anybody else on here recently had one? If so, can you provide some information on what sort of things they asked and looked at during the day?

I must admit this is something new to me and haven't heard of an OfSTED e-safety inspection.

 

If you haven't done so already I would have a read of the byron report as well as further documents released regarding e-safety by OfSTED.

I would also:

 

Check that you have an internet consent form for all staff and students

 

Put up e-safety posters in your ICT Suites

 

Mention you are looking into encryption on memory pens / staff laptops if you are currently not doing so

 

e-safety area on your school website

 

e-safety sessions are included as part of your PSHE lessons

I asked our chief inspector when he did his pre-inspection visit if he would want to see me. His response we won't come looking for you but if we bump into you in the corridor we might have a chat. His suggestion tferefire was stay out of their way. Good ict policy, e-safety policy and a 3 year ict strategy.

Evening Rob,

The main thing Ofsted look out for is the e-safety of the pupils, online, staff laptops etc

 

I am sure you have already evaluated these security products one of them already being TTC from Lightspeed systems so you are proactive in your management of IT at the school already on that front :-)

Yes, we went through our OfSTED inspection last week. It wasn't too bad to be honest. From what I can gather the results across the schools they are sampling will be collated and then a final report will be made towards the end of the year, or the beginning of next year.

 

Below is listed about how we prepared, and the inspection day of how it ran.

 

Preparation

- Dust off policies. Change history?

- Read summary of Byron report and OfSTED response.

- AUPs - current? Change record?

- Parental information gone out?

- Evidence of governing body participation?

- SEF - question 4b - reasonable evaluative / summative comment re: esafety?

- Use BECTA esafety checklist

- Action plan for items yet to address

- Check crucial staff roles - esafety coordinator, network manager, headteacher

- Check all staff know policies, undestand procedures

- Collect evidence of curricular activities

 

The Inspection

- 1 inspector, 1 day. Classed as a subject inspection. Will form limiting criteria on new OfSTED inspection framework. Presently 50% survey - national report out in late 2009.

- 15 mins interview with headteacher

- 1 hour interview with esafety coordinator & network manager (together)

- Tour of the school with 2 students. Students asked to log onto the system to check what they can / cannot access on the web, and look at content of their areas.

- Interview with several groups of students. Should include a student who enrolled at the school outside of normal start dates

- Interview with cross-section of staff.

- Had lunch in the school dining hall so was able to speak to several different students

- Review of documentation and produce report. Documentation included esafety policy, linked policies, action plan, AUPs, info to parents, governors’ reports, evidence of curriculum related activities, SEF, evidence of esafety incident management process and linkage with pastoral procedures, evidence of staff training (presentations and info in ICT handbook).

 

Overall, it was more to do with policies and training (specifically focussed on students) and less about the technicial infrastructure.
