IE8 from Windows 7 Build 7100 (x64) does not laod

The problem is simple to explain... you click on the IE shortcut, it 'lights up' as if it is loading and then it stops being lit up.

 

I've tried the taskbar shortcut, the 32-bit Start Menu shortcut, the 64-bit Start Menu shortcut and the EXE files in the relevant Program Files folders. All the same.

 

I wouldn't normally be bothered because I use Firefox. I don't mind IE8 though and I think that it is having a knock-on effect on other programs (effecting proxy settings and the like).

IIRC, My W7 media pc received an IE8 patch via Windows Update. Have you checked there yet?

@Dos_Box: I think that Windows Update is one of the things that is also being effected by the mysterious IE problem

Have you tried it with no Add-ons? Right click the IE icon. Have you tried in Safe Mode?

 

Was it working before? You could try System Restore to a working date/time. Also try disabling any security software temporarily.

I had this problem with IE8 on windows 7 RC here is what I did to resolve the issue.

 

1) click tools > Internet Options

2) Adanced > reset

3) The click reset if this does not work then try deleting the personal settings as well.

I had this exact problem and it was caused by the Sophos IE plug-in web content Scanner. Fixed by stopping the Sophos Service, loading IE (which then worked), going into 'manage add-ons' and disabling the 'Sophos Web Content Scanner'.

 

It's kind of odd because it was working OK before but a recent Sophos update seems to have broken it?

 

I reckon your problem is probably caused by this or another IE plug-in not being compatible with IE8/Windows7

Yeh sophos can cause the issue but also sometimes an addon can screw IE up a little. Try disabling protected mode (right click on a shortcut for IE and find the settings option in there) and run IE. If that does not work while protected mode if off run IE as an admin account. Then close IE and reenabled protected mode and see how it goes then. I had that issue with one PC and that was what I did to fix it.

I had the same issue with IE8 on Vista 64, as soon as this was disabled worked straight away.
