at one of the centres I have done the following removed and reinstalled IE8 onto all of the computers. Redone the Mandatory profile, manualy installed delprof and hive cleanup (for housekeeping) along with running any windows updates. when testing with my test users all appeared to be working well (so Far). I got several of the students and staff to also check and said that I would check back in the morning. What is interesting in centres that are uisng IE7 the issue of profiles does not happen. However what I have not yet figured out is why on some computers it is only one or two users that are affected and everybody else is ok. There is a single mandatory profile for students and a single mandatory profile for staff. so why would there be an issue for say one or two users and not for others. also the same two users could use another computer without any problems. while going down the profile route is I think part of the problem it is this randomness that is causing the issue

Hello fellow EduGeeks :-) Ok so here is the problem that my colleges are facing at the moment. For a while now we have been having issues with user profiles. in that when a user logs onto the system they are presented with an error message saying that the system cannot find a tile in the temporary internet files. This is bizare in that the profiles that we use are mandatory for all users staff and students. The computers are all windows XP SP3. So while that is the first part the next stage is also bizaare in that in one centre the issue may only affect two users on the same two computers. In another centre all of the users on different computers, in another a few users on some computers and for other they work fine all the time. I have tested and used a variety of tools so that the user profiles are removed from the local computer on either shutdown or bootup and the problem still remains. - So far I have used various tools from MS such as delprof / hive clean up - a rather brutal script from Edugeek that deletes profiles on boot up - forcing gpos that explicty say to ignore any profile changes (not needed as the profiels are mandatory) - remove profile on logoff (via a gpo policy) For some centers they are able to reset the students password and it works fine for the day, at another they have to reset the password each time a student wants to logon to the network. on a couple of the machines I have seen the following error messages: ----------------------------------------------- issue is profile IE temp files =================== Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1509 Date: 14/09/2010 Time: 08:44:35 User: localdomain\blogsj Computer: COMPUTER1 Description: Windows cannot copy file \\localdomain.local\config$\redirects\Staff\profile\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0R7G8Y0K\=top_ad;sect=liverpool-fc-news;templ=page;cat=Sport;reg=NW;st=r2;oid=26908169;sz=255x90;gs_cat=sportdvd;zone=liverpool-fc;zone1=liverpool-fc-news;tile=2;ord=9958331657741996000[1] to location C:\Documents and Settings\gravep\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0R7G8Y0K\=top_ad;sect=liverpool-fc-news;templ=page;cat=Sport;reg=NW;st=r2;oid=26908169;sz=255x90;gs_cat=sportdvd;zone=liverpool-fc;zone1=liverpool-fc-news;tile=2;ord=9958331657741996000[1]. no errors you start the software go through the options select the clip that you want the player starts up but the video does not play just sticks on the first frame of video. if you slide the progress bar the frames progress.

didnt now that. the staff member brought this piece of software several years ago and only now is she starting to use it more

I am running to from the phsical media as we only have single user licenses for it so cannot run from a network share or ISS. and when I did test it from the network was sternly repremanded by the software developer. (I did explaine that I was testing and that no student could access it)

Hi All, Hope those who were at the Conference yesterday have now recovered. I am having an interesting issue with NSM Tutor version 10.5. The issue is this in a class I have a room of identical computers all lenovos all have been installed in the same way and all have had NSM installed in the same way. When I come to check the blank screen function it will blank some but not all. - The computers have the same room name - The computers have the same security key - all other functions of NSM tutor work - I currently have a call logged with netsupport software but have yet to get a responce back to my second email on this issue. Many thanks

You would think that a poster and lables next to the network point would do the trick but this did not work. some people do not read before acting

Hi All, I am having a problem of a user removing the network cable from the NED box. Due to the layout the NED box has to be in a class room due to space. I am trying to find a scipt that can be run from the server and then send a pop up message to the teaching staff every 10 minutes or so until the cable has been reinstalled. The reason this is needed is that I am only on site usually every other week and so this would be an ideal solution for them to quickly resolve themselves. Many thanks

Fragmentation is fine on all the drives. After posting this Log. I created a coule of new backup jobs and then recreated my full backup and all once again was working in a decent time frame of around 3 to 4 hours. very strange and bizzar.

Hello Fellow EduGeeks. Ok so here is the little problem that I am having. Just over a week ago the backups on one of the servers that I support stopped working. reporting that it was timing out. so I increased the time out and they still failed. finaly removing and it is working once again. However the issue is this the overal amount of data that is being backed up has only increased by a gig in size but the time has gone from completing a backup in just under 6 hours to around 13 hours. any ideas as to why such a big time difference. average backup speed is around 186 MB/s Thanks

I have really enjoyed getting to grips with Windows 7 and have found it to be a vast improvment over Windows Vista. Yes there are changes that you need to get used to. now I am finding that I work in a different way and the search option for files has meant that I dont have to go trauwling through all of my files to just find the one that I need.

Ok So I managed to fix it issue being firewall on nic was getting in the way. issue resolved and working

Hi all, Ok so heres the problem we are trying to move DHCP over to a new server running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition over from a server running windows 2003 standard. I have been able to get dhcp installed and transfer the data over. I have stopped the old dhcp server on the old server but the new one even through the dhcp is active and authorised it is not dishing out IP addresses. The new server is a DC. Any Ideas.

Agree thsi would be the easier solution. I have just started to set up software restriction policies and in doing so It is helping to resolve quite a few little head aches that are being caused.

Forgot to add the book mentiond above by Tom Ang is a good starting point I have read this plus a few others from the same guy.

There have been soom good starter cameras mentioned here. I still use a Nikon D50, I have used this to do various types of shoots from weddings to music gigs. You need to get a couple of decent lenses. ideally some sort of wide angle lense 18-55 or better and some type of zoom lense say from 55 - 200 or even upto 300. I tend to use my beast of a lense 80-200 mm f2.8 continuos.

and its a vote for comic life from me too. it is a great piece of software and is easy to use

Have you removed this user level msi deployment from the gpo. Remove the file from the gpo and then gpo. also have you done a gpudate /force on one of the computers.
