Spam PMs

This is a quick note to remind companies that sending 'spam' private messages is strictly forbidden. Anybody found to be doing this will be banned immediately and EduGeek will contact your employer asking for you to explain your actions.

 

Members are reminded that there is a 'report this message' button to the left of all PMs. If a PM is suspected to be spam, please click the warning triangle icon and report the message.

 

Other measures are soon to be introduced to further catch people doing this.

If said people are representing companies on EduGeek then why shouldn't those companies be contacted because of SPAM.

 

Nobody likes SPAM... Besides any company SPAMming EduGeek members are probably putting themselves at a disadvantage for doing it in the first place.

If it's an individual making a nuisance then yes, but it sounds like these are coming from a company representative. In which case I think it's perfectly justified; companies are no more privileged than anyone else when it comes to PMs.

mabye a short brief on what is classed as spam would be good i.e if a poster asks for infomation regarding products or even prices then a supplier should be allowed to contact the poster in private to offer the infomation or quote as to stop bidding wars on the thread ,

If its a case of just contacting anybody for the sake of self promotion I am in full support of the messures against this,

@CPLTD: Yes, if you are a sponsor and a member has specifically asked you to quote it is not spam. 'Randoms' sending PMs to all and sundry, as has been happening of late, is unacceptable and is becoming an increasing problem. This is why harsh measures have been decided upon.

 

Likewise, our sponsors understand that they should not be sending unsolicited messages to members.

I think companies need to know. I'd look negatively at a company who marketed themselves that way. Think of all the people on here who refuse to have anything to do with NTS Optomen due to their marketing style.

This message is aimed at nobody in particular. It is a message reminding everyone that PM spam is not acceptable and that there is a means of reporting it via the warning trianlge icon.

 

The sponsors are generally well behaved and rarely need beating with a large stick nowadays

 

We do not intend to 'name and shame' but will take appropriate action to discourage innappropriate usage of EduGeek.net. After all, as a member, nobody wants to receive spam.

I did mention this to ZH the othernight but i will share, when a member signs up i believe they get a welcome message?

 

Maybe it would be an idea to point it out in that message that this is not allowed, i know it is in the terms and conditions but not everyone reads them.

 

Again a sticky would also be a good idea to refer to but at least people cant say they were not told.

 

Mentioning no names, but one if the culprits was doing this to members but said they were unaware it was not allowed, and that now they are aware they wont do it again. so i think it is just down to making sure new members/companys understand. Afterall it is generally new companys/members rather then the sponsors.

• Contacting members
  
• Quotes
  
• Listing company/contact details in your signature
  
• Any sales type posts
  
• Inviting members to contact you
  
• Asking members to recommend you
  
• Sending private messages to members.
  

Failure to abide by these rules will result in a ban.

And another company, big enough to know better, that has failed to take 'Stop it' for an answer and been given many chances before has just been banned. Thanks for the reports guys.
