Outlook Web Access

We have a couple of members of staff that are trying to use OWA from home but they say it doesn't work very well on a Mac, they have tried Safari and Firefox but both are causing issues. Anyone used OWA on a Mac here that can comment suggest a solution, I haven't observed the issues first hand yet. I've seen a post saying that Camino seems to work can anyone confirm this?

OWA is primarily designed to work with IE, in fact there are certain features of IE specifically written for OWA, so in short, if it's not IE on a Windows platform it won't work 100% as it should .

We don't have anyone using it at home, but a couple of Admin staff use Macs here and use OWA via Firefox. Had issues with safari, couldn't view pages correctly if my memory serves. Had no issues with Firefox.

 

What sort of problems are they experiencing?

Try and get IE for mac.. or install parallel desktop with XP on it..

I'll have to look into it but they said IE on Mac was a problem something keeps telling them it's an old version (which it is), installing a whould VM OS just to check email seems OTT. Sigh

Never really hada problem with OWA light, which is what it will default to when its not on IE. Still its pretty limited compared to the full OWA but its functional to get some emails at least. Ive always used firefox at home to recieve them, and as soon as I have the internet back I will return to using it

Yeah i will be honest i dont really like the OWA light, much prefer it in IE

 

I sometimes have to use it and it's not impossible to use, just gets annoying sometimes when you try and do something and it dont work.

 

If you can change between things pretty quickly then it's not so bad, i know some staff have a problem with doing that

I heard that this was "fixed" in Exchange 2010, so that any browser would get the same experience - anybody know if this is the case?

firefox on 10.5 @ home and OWA at work has always worked fine for me. This includes calendar, mail and tasks.

 

Perhaps you're using some functionality I don't use from home?!

OWA light gives only gives 1 day at a time in calendar view (which is useless!), doesn't give a tree view folder access for mail folders, doesn't give access to public folders at all, doesn't support drag and drop for email and possibly more.

 

Other than that, it works fine :-)

 

MS have announced that "it's fixed in the next release" but for their flagship email system to be so rubbish on anything other than IE is poor (and it's not as if you can't do this kind of thing with a web based client outside IE - Sharepoint handles this kind of thing OK in Firefox, Safari etc)

At some point the topic changed to OWA light - I've only used the full OWA on Mac and not seen any significant issues with it.

The full OWA is only available in IE, so not on a Mac, unless you use something like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

That perhaps proves the point, albeit a slightly 'clunkier' interface, it's never caused a problem for me (so much so that I didn't even realise that it was different ^^. I can still book meetings, read email etc etc so it does the job.

We're using SSL port to access OWA and it's working fine here with FireFoxv and Camino. We have a lot of users using Mac and I never heard a complain of OWA not working with Safari.

Yes this is fixed in office 2010. Perfectly seamless experience between browsers
