Batman Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 It's horrible that it fell during the exam... My experience of sports halls tells my they're empty a lot of the day and all of the night so the chance of it happening during an exam would, you'd think, be smaller. It's really awful.

No it's not, it's becoming the 'Sheppy Academy' from this year, but they are having to remain in the buildings of Minster College and Cheyne Middle School until the new academy buildings are ready (They've not even started building them yet!) The school buildings have suffered majorly with years of neglect, although they did recently (about 4 years ago) have a significant sum of money spent on them when the school was I believe in special measures for a while. Probably; I reported a relatively minor H&S issue a few weeks ago. Apparently, it's well known and is often reported, but "I doubt anybody will sort it out until there's an accident". Hope those concerned make a quick recovery.

BBC main news had a long piece about the earthquake school in China and who was accountable for it's poor building standards This school was relegated to local news and yet, perhaps it should be more important story given that it reflects the state of maintenance in many UK schools. My daughter's own school (also KCC) had to abandon a room being used for exams on Monday after ceiling tiles started to fall. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but children were in the room when it happened. Edited May 13, 2009 by elsiegee40
Michael Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The thing I find strange is how it all suddenly came down at once. One end (for example), didn't appear to be lose. I'm not a duct expert by any means, but surely something as large as that would be held up by quite a few brackets/fittings? Maybe it was more the roof itself which was to blame? All these problems in schools and we have MPs who are abusing their position and offsetting anything they damn well like. Just goes to show which politicians have morals and which don't. Naturally, the more bigger names don't.
