JuniorIT_Tech Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 (edited) Hello All, I am new to this site but I was hoping you guys; senior techs, NM or anyone else would be able to help me out. I have completed my degree just under a year ago in IT I am now looking to work in a school environment as an IT technician. As part of my degree I have undertaken a one year placement in IT support. I do not have much experience in school but with my ability to learn and right training provided I believe I will be able to perform this job exceptionally. I have the ability to troubleshoot printers, upgrade hardware and software, AD experience (setting up new accounts and resetting staff student passwords), Proficient MS Office and Windows XP/2000 user, troubleshooting Wireless connectivity on laptops, familiar with remote desktop tools and ability to troubleshoot network issues. I wanted to know if you guys where aware of any Junior technicians positions available in Sandwell, Birmingham or any part of West Midlands region. Please let me know, you can pm me or email me on [email protected]. In current economic situation I'm not sure where to look for an IT Technician job. I am aware of Birmingham City Council website but does any one know anything about where Sandwell IT Tech jobs are advertised or any other website? I would be willing to work anywhere in Midlands eithier in secondary or primary school. Thanks Everyone and I look forward hearing from you. Edited May 6, 2009 by JuniorIT_Tech

JuniorIT_Tech Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 Hello All, I was told this site provides many responses and opportunities but since my post has been posted you guys are not much help are you? Where have all the IT Technicians jobs gone??????????
EduTech Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 making a post like that probably is not going to get you anywhere! There are jobs out there you just need to look, did you look on the HAYS website in the end? have you spoken to some recruitment agencies? if so which ones? James.
Joh619 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I don't know of any jobs available at the moment, but I got this job last year and it sounds pretty similar to what you're looking for. I just found it in the back of one of the free newspapers that I got through the door. Other websites I looked at were reed.co.uk as I'd had a job with them before (although not in IT). And thisisderbyshire.co.uk (I assume there are other local websites similar to this for different areas). I found three or four jobs for IT technicians around this area.

Im sorry for the earlier comment its just so frustrating at times. Yes been on hays. Contact the following agencies: CWjobs Reed Monster But all seem to be saying send us your CV and never get back to you. Is it just in Birmingham where jobs are hard to find or nationwide.
Hightower Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 How about CWJobs.co.uk? Thats the daddy of all jobs site that one is. I think though, like many people at the minute, you may struggle to find employment. A lot of schools have had their budgets cut extremely, and mine for one is talking of redundancies so I wish you all the very best in finding something.

Thats fine, i understand your frustration i was in the same boat, and i ended up working voluntary for around 8 months working 8 - 5:30 just to gain expeirence. i didn't want to do it but i had no choice. I admit if your looking for work in the Public Sector your not going to get IT Tech jobs up everyday so all i can say is keep an eye on all of the local LA Sites (birmingham, sandwell, walsall, wolverhampton etc) and apply for jobs accordingly. CWJobs are pretty good, you find most jobs thats are on TotalJobs and My Birmingham Jobs are also on there. Keep in touch with hays as their pretty good. Also speak to SpecialAgent on the forums he is the best guy on here to talk to and i am sure he could give you the best advice. James.

JuniorIT_Tech Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 Thanks everyone for the advice and useful tips on how to secure a job. However I have seen one job going its in a Catholic school. I just wanted to know from you experienced guys, me been a non catholic will I still have a chance of getting the job? I am not saying this school is going to be biased or favour catholics more but just wanted to know if anyone a non catholic especially has worked in a catholic school if yes whats it like.
Joh619 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I work in a Catholic school and I'm not Catholic. I don't have any problem with it and there are plenty of other staff who aren't Catholic.
krisd32 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I work in a catholic school and i'm not catholic and its no different to any other school. you don't have to get involved with anything that they do religious wise. and they also can't discriminate against religion!
