Restrict where student from accessing the C drive and Server

Hi All,

We have just installed a new managed wireless network on site. We used to have Ranger installed on the laptops which had to be taken off as Ranger Network was not designed for wireless networks.

My question is how do i lock down the student areas similar to Ranger, will the new settigns conflict with the existing Ranger GPO settings? Are there other tools i could use in parallel with Ranger that can be installed on laptops only?

 

We are running a Windows 2003 environment with XP clients.

In a Windows 2003 Group Policy you go to:

 

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Explorer

 

look for the polocy restrict access to drives, then you select the drive you dont want them going in.

 

That information is about right might be slightly incorrect as i am not infront of an AD setup

From accessing the C drive, FN-GM is correct, youll find Windows Explorer in the Windows Componments section.

 

If your talking about shares on the server which aren't meant to be accessible to students (such as admin shares) you need to look at the particular permissions on the share's and make sure no student groups, domain users etc are in there and only the groups that need to access that share are (e.g. adminstaff).
