Lenovo greatly preferred or possibly Dell. We have some Acers that are ok, but I think that was a fluke.

HP are on the blacklist due to cretinous behaviour during a few warranty service incidents, including an infamous one where the courier trashed the screen, held their hands up to it and HP continued to accuse us of pulling a fast one for a month.

The school had always gone with Viglen, but the last batch (approx 70) have been awful. We must have had half of them go back with the same fault and they feel horrible and plasticy.

To give them there dues though support has always been top notch, fill out a form on line and they will be out the next day or if they need it back it will take 1-2 weeks to get it back in school. Almost always take your word on the fault so none of the silly going through hoops before they agree to a repair.

Earlier in the year we tried Rock laptops for the first time and they have been brilliant so far, not a single fault with the 20 of them over the last 6 months. Havnt had to try out the support yet, so dunno what that is like.

HP all the way here we bought some 6710b's and 6715's last year and they were brilliant.

Not so impressed with the 6730's we have this year but they are nice ...

We may consider Lenovo as i am a big fan.

We also have a few macbooks around which are in a league of there own :D

We currently have a mix of Toshiba, HP and a few acers. I believe all our next laptops will be HPs as our network is pretty much all HP. We also bought 20 HP 530s last year, which I cant really fault, the only niggle being the lack of a hard drive LED so you can never tell if its crashed or is busy.

The Toshibas are a mix of L20s and L40s. These are eventually due to be replaced.

HP, very good pricing. Very good support (next day collect and return warranty, a bloke comes with a box, whisks it away and so far for the 2 out of 20 we've had to send away both have been back in 7 days).

Yeah this is the problem, why are they taking it away, they should have engineer arrive with the parts and swap it out onsite so no need for courier getting it back etc. We have Dell as others have menioned and use dell for server, laptops, and desktops and never had any problems.

We have got some Fujitsu-siemens as part of LFT and they wree awful, had to call them and they collected the laptop and we never say it again for good 6 weeks!!.

Ash.

Because we don't find them to be worth buying an onsite warranty for? Why have an onsite warranty when we have a few spares, and plenty of time to get them repaired?

Agree with the F-S one, we sent one away and it was 10 weeks before it came back.

HP for us, although our latest bunch got hammered by using Cat6 patch cords, which destroyed the network sockets. This is hardly HP's fault though!!

Good support, once you register on the HP UK website, and do all warranty claims through the online system. I do not like laptops as they do not stand up to the abuse half as well as desktops do, and repairs are ardous IMO compared to changing a keyboard or mouse on a desktop for example.

Oh, and I wouldn't touch acer with a bargepole, after previous experience with them. Their support is truly awful IMO, and we had stuff sent off to be repaired, and never got sent back as it got "lost"!!! This was with both laptops and projectors!

Aweful sales depatment when the specific school attempted to get quotes. Forty minutes on hold to get a we're not interested reply is not endearing. Vast and comprehensive issues when they brought and ruined Alienware in one hit along with the hardware performance.

I'm sure that they do fast machines but my personal experience with every Dell that I have dealt with is that given the hardware they are way slower than they should be. I'm not sure whether it is just a case of bad motherboard hardware on the systems I have had the misfortune of dealing with but performance wise I have only ever found dells to be rubbish.

We go for hp stuff in general, we have tried Lenvos ( workstations ) but again their hardware does not seem to be as robust as the hp offering.

This is exactly my experience of them - even for tenders of £80k plus they just come back with the "can't be a*sed" attitude.

And they wonder why they are haemorhaging(sp) money??

In the schools that have both HP + Dell kit I have to say that the HP kit is the most support intensive.

Case in point suite with both HP + Dell the 3yo HPs (Athlon 64/512MB) are always the ones with issues while the 5yo Dells (CEL/256MB) may be slightly slower but have no freezing / other issues.

What do you expect with an AMD platform?

We are Dell on Pc's all the way at the moment but also looking into Samsung/Lenovo for netbooks up against the Dell's.

Apple is another story as we are dual platform here but we will never buy another Acer ever again! Support is awful and the early tablet laptops we had all went back to be repaired (which took 2-3 months!) and one came back minus its WLAN card the engineer didnt put back in!!! :censored:

I would say HP as I work for them.

Bet you've got a Dell at home :-)

I personally have a Lenovo; I love it (screen res of 1680 x 1050 and just a really good machine) but at work we mostly have HP (my work laptop is a 2530p which is also excellent although I wish it had a higher screen res)

for any company you'll always find someone who's had a bad experience; the bigger the company, the more people you're likely to have with bad experiences (even if it's 0.001% of the customers who have a bad time, that's still a lot of people when you have 1,000,000 customers etc)

I now find HP pretty good but I've had bad experiences. In my last job, we invited them to tender one year (we'd been test buying odd batches of about 50 and the HP machines seemed good) but their presentation was useless; they just couldn't offer any of what we wanted (really difficult things like shipping with USB mice and keyboards!!) so they didn't get the business.
