PEO Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Hi gang Out of intrest but how quick I your login times? How did you create your profile? How does redirecting the application data help? Under my profile I have the following example Staff - folder Ntuser.man Application data - folder Desktop, start menu are redirected using gpo It takes 20 sec for start bar and desktop to appear and about 10 sec for user to start using the machine. Any idea how I can improve Current setup Server 2008 Windows xp sp3 ie7 Cheers
leco Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Logon to work time depends on a number of things. Desktop or wireless laptop, whether the user has been on the machine before or not. I have a slightly different way of dealing with user files and settings however. All the user docs go in Staff/Username and anything to do with their environment goes in another share Settings/Staff/Username. That way the user can't "mess" with any of the settings stuff and can happily browse through their own files and folders. All of which are "controlled" through GPO, so if anything needs adding or taking away I can do it from the server (2008 by the way)
PEO Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 I think there was a wiki on here a little while ago on setting up profiles. had a look last night but it seems to have been removed
elsiegee40 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 This thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/18661-creating-small-mandatory-profile.html And the wiki: A Guide to Profiles Should help quite a bit! 1
