Right here's the story

Were and independent school and need to improve out internet speed as our current ADSL Max line isnt really cutting it. The bad news is that most leased lines are out of our price range.

ADSL2+ is floating around some suppliers but not all yet so I'm wondering if anyone had any advice on what we could do. Also any recomended ISP's or any to avoid!

Mmm, "50" Mb. Call me a cynic if you like.

Just jealous (ps. i am too!).

At the end of the day, when you start going oh it runs at 50mb but you don't download at 50mb, to start ripping the whole internet infrastructure apart. Basically, you'll only as fast as the slowest part of the link, nowadays it's starting to look like the server your downloading from.

I looked at going for cable but the upload speeds are usually much poorer than what you can get on ADSL(depending on distance from the exchange...)

I've just moved away from our BT ADSL MAX connections to ADSL2+ provided by Cerberus networks. They seem to be very good so far. They use the same network as BE/02 but provide their own tech support and offer managed support if you can justfy the extra expense. They also do web hosting etc.

The price is very good compared to some of the other business providers.

How much do you want to pay?

£10 for line rental, free bb. Got a pants tel line, did get about 7mb / 700kps, now down to 4mb / 700kps. Seems alright. Router not too bad, would like SNMP, but can't have everything. GF does get the tv rubbish.

If you can get a little more money you can one like ours.

256 Public IP Addresses

only 35k a year

Can recommend Be, as long as you have them on LLU.

Not really had to deal with tech support or anything, but reliability wise, i'd put them just behind UK Online who are very, very good indeed (but don't do 2+ AFAIK).

Cerberus Networks and a few other ISP's use the same network as BE, I called BE to enquire about their packages and got straight through to an indian call centre and an operator who didn't think they offered any business packages - their tech support is also in india. If I need tech support because my broadband is down I really don't want to hit a language barrier.

I'm on Be. I have their 24mb/1.3mb for £18/month 'unlimited' Package. If your interested I can send you a referral (gets you free install).
