apoth0r Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Hi guys, Trying to install the package on the county hosting for a primary school and it keeps basically going round in circles, whilst not creating the config.php. Any reason for this? What am I not doing that I should be. Installed Joomla dozens of times so I assume it's something to do with permissions, as it's not writing the config.php or even looking like it's trying. (No errors though?!?!) Forgive my ignorance
kmount Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Gave up in the end with Synetrix's hosting and Joomla. Rumour has it if you ring them and ask they'll sort it out for you.
mossj Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Could you not make it yourself (offline on a test station), then upload the files + database manually. Then all you need to do is edit the config file.
kmount Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Potentially yes you could, but in my experience if it fails to install there's normally a pretty good reason and you run the risk of having problems later which would have been reported during the installation. (Most notably versions of particular apps/libs that whilst they may work it may have adverse effects)

Forgive my ignorance Yes I had the same problem with the install not creating the config.php, I just created myself made it writable and went through the install. One thing I will say is test any Mods, Com, Plugins on a local copy of the site first it saves a lot of time doing re installs if you break it.
sparkeh Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Yeah had the same problem when trying to install into the root folder (httpdocs). Now I use a folder so I can change permissions on it then move the site when its ready.

After removing the installation directory, after going through the whole installation process, Joomla even tells me the configuration file is writable at the beginning of the installation. Anymore clues as to what I should be doing? I presume I'm going to need some sort of Administrator login for the site, do I contact EMBC regarding this or will the school have the details of this?

Not sure exactly what you mean but do you have your login details for PLESK? Is that what you mean? apoth0r Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 I just phoned them to explain the situation, had the permissions changed for my FTP account that I am using as part of the Joomla installation and it's still not working. Absolute pain in the bum!

Please, please, please use the service desk folks ... it is what we pay for and going directly to other folk can really screw things up (especially when it comes to making sure things get done!)

bonjour Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I had exactly the same problem. Edited the config file manually, though, and everything was then fine. Hopefully I wont run into similar issues further down the line...
