My network consists of 800 xp SP3 machines except for one mine, which has vista. Now due to my constant experimtation with random bits of sotware my pc could do with a rebuild. Now do I stick with Vista..... bring back Xp or do i go for Windows 7 RC 1.

I find vista is a sack of s**t at work but at home i love it!

Tell me what you guys would do if it was you....

XP, tis stable. If Mr Microsoft suddenly disables all the Windows 7 beta's you'll be stuck and you just know it'll be the one day you need your machine working 100% ;)

I'd go for XP - boring as hell but at least it is pretty stable. I have Windows 7 on a laptop at home and it was great to begin with but now it runs like a pig in mud.

I gave up with Vista as I got hacked off with some older peripherals and software spassing about.

Dunno if i could bring myself to install opera!! Ill miss all the Internet Explorer crashed and errors ;)

Not that im against the joys of linux and such like, but gonna stick with the windows.

Think i might dig out my XP disk then.....

I'd hold out for RC1 of 7. Dunno what TechGuy's done to make it run like a pig in mud but it's still running a dream on both my main system and on my el-crappo laptop. Could of course be some driver/software issue, but pedantically the same could be said of many of Vista's issues.

I think the title said "Just for Fun". JJ99 has yet to stipulate any masochistic tendencies (other than using Vista) so should probably skip by on 98.

Go the whole ruddy hog and break out the Windows Me disc!

Now if we're just being stupid, then we should be recommending OS2. And anyway Windows 3.1 isn't an OS.

I have DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 on disk here, I found them on the fireplace...

It's about 20 floppy disks, so whilst it was slightly tempting to install them, I couldn't find a floppy drive.

There's nothing wrong with DOS and Windows:

echo y. | deltree c:\win

works a treat :D

You can still download windows 3.11 off technet!

Think there might be some compatability and driver issues tho ;)

I still have the disks for 3.14! and somewhere there is a box with the 122 floppy disks of the orginal office and i may still have Stacker anyone remeber that it doubled your disk space but made your coumputer totaly unsuable....

I say bring back dos, ill just have to remeber its dir not ls ;)

stacker, christ. I remember my old man getting bored, went round to his one night and he'd been playing with a (then huge) 840mb hard drive. He'd got just over 2gb out if it!

He tried ever so hard to actually try and fill it up in that state but couldn't find enough files and got bored of copying :D

840MB i prbabaly still go one of them in teh cupboard:D

I remeber having two 40MB dirves and that was the dogs knackers, to get my pc to work with stacker i had to choose between the 4 speed CD ROM drivers or the mouse drivers! Autoexec.bat. emm386 god its all comming back

oh my giddy aunt :D Yeah, it was a new toy and it needed to be played with. Can certainly remember the old 40mb drives - hell, I've still got a Winchester lying around (either a 5 or 10mb, full height, could hold open a bank vault door/put Mike Tyson's back out). But let's not start reminiscing, it'll just make us all feel old :D

Of course I'm not that old - at that age I was at school trying to get around the "security" on what they called "networks" in those days so I could fire up Wolfenstein 3D or Commander Keen :D
