I have a new blade enclosure with 8 blades in. It is going to deliver a 'thin client' project to the school. Now what I'm after is a novel/fun naming convention for my blades. Bearing in mind I have eight, I was thinking on the lines of naming them something daft like 'snow white' and then the seven dwarfs!

Anybody come up with amusing/decent alternatives?????

Characters from Eastenders...

imagine the fun you could have announcing that"Phil Mitchel has gone down!!"

or even"I am taking Grant Mitchell down tonight!!"

in addition "bianca has got a screaming error Report"

or Finally.........

"Hey guess what Dot Cotton has just gone down on me!!"

the karma suitra springs to mind..

or on a more serious note*, members of S Club 7 or Blazin Squad? :p

(*Serious note still not being serious, but servers named after sexual positions would not be a logical idea in a school)

or superheros

or the characters from Blade

or tennis players (them being servers and all)

At my old place (when Bill Clinton was in Office) We installed 2 new domain controllers, one called 'Bill' and the other 'Monica'. Pureley so we could say, 'Bill was up' and 'Monica was down' - GENIUS! (well we thought at the time). Unfortunately Monica never went 'down' on us in all the time she worked in our server room - FORTUNATELY! ;)

We name our servers after the Simpsons :)

Does homer have more Ram on him? and does Marge complain about a 3.5" floppy? and does bart have the hardest drive?

I miss college =[

Not that it helps in naming these blade servers.

I once worked in an FE college, whilst installing an additional Netware 4 server I asked the MIS Manager what I should name it, his reply "oh call it anything". I'm not sure he meant me to take him literally, but I did, so they ended up with a server called "Anything".

Whilst working in a university we were setting up a linux server with an Alpha processor we managed to get the Computing Services department to allow us to name it "Moonbase" as in Moon Base Alpha, for those too young, Google "Space 1999". I'm amazed we were allowed it the Computing Services department there were usually very strict about naming, a colleague and I once tried to get a room of seven SGI O2's named after the seven dwarves and the SGI Octane that served them to be called "Snow White" but they came back with some lame argument about copyright and Disney, so we named them all after cheeses instead, which turned out better as later that year we increased the O2 provision so needed more names.
