indeed, Nildram offer it as a service as do RM (not that I'd ever choose RM !)

and cisco offer a router with ADSL bonding (need IOS 12.3 IIRC)

Coupled with another ADSL line from a separate ISP, we'd have cheap and automatic failover for our Internet connection.

I have been looking into this for the past 3 months as our LEA will not provide remote access into the school network for RDP/terminal services or even web based apps such as sharepoint/class server.

 

Anyhow you will all need to be carefull when bonding multiple ADSL lines as you will be subject to the numerous "Fair use policies" that ISPs seem to be hiding in the T&C's these days.

 

I went to BT, and a few others all of whom could only provide at best 24hour fault report and fix ( in BT's case an extra 10.00 per month per line), the business SLA was patchy at best, and when appraoched about Fair usage none of them could say that you would not get capped.

 

Remember Fair Usage Policies are at the hardest DURING business hours exactly at the time when we are likely to be using them.

 

The only other option we was looking at was 10Mb Leased Lines from Enta.net starting at £7,200 per year, at least you get 10Mb each way, no conention and no capping.

7,200 is cheaper than 14K for the same thing from you-know-who.

wtf - this is one of the main points of Becta/govt ICT strategy !

 

don't get too excited about LEA 10Mb/s connections - they don't guarantee 10Mb/s to the internet -just to their proxy - and what bout contention?. IMHO its a sales tactic 10MB for only this much....

Especially when my home connection is more reliable than the LEA one. Tried running debmirror through a school connection? Dies every 20 mins or so, but works fine through a cheap home 1mb link.

 

Why yes, our Internet has been out twice this month already.

£7,200 for 10mb leased line is not a bad price!. It states that this is the "from" range so this may be their starting price but still not bad.

 

I agree with whoever said that 10mb is only to the local concentrator or proxy when it comes to LEA's solution, and yes it does appear that they are marketing it like this to get people onboard.

Yeah - who needs it - I've just been upgraded to 4mb on NTL at home for £11.50 a month - and it seems pretty solid too - RBC? rip-off!
