Little-Miss Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 It's for the Head. He's got a silly Deskjet which ran out of ink and being the end of the budget and all that i gave him a spare Samsung laser we had which struggled with big prints but was ok for one or two. Well that died typically so now the Head has to get up and walk across the corridoor to the Office..oh no. Anyway, i personally think Deskjets are a waste in this kind of environment and still think he would be better off with a little laser jet. Can any one recommend one? Thanks
RabbieBurns Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 We replaced all our deskjets with Xerox Phaser 6110's. No complaints so far. Someone on here said they didnt like them though as they were too hot for their cold classrooms or something.
elsiegee40 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) At home, I'm using a little HP laserjet 1018 and it's the business. It gets used heavily and has been pleasingly reliable and economic with the toner. At school we have a Samsung ML1250, which was second hand when we got it 4 years ago. It must be 8+ years old by now; it just keeps on soldiering on and is very economical on the toner too. I would hope the newer versions are as good. mb2k01 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Anyway, i personally think Deskjets are a waste in this kind of environment and still think he would be better off with a little laser jet. Can any one recommend one? I used to share this opinion, but have used a HP OfficeJet Pro K550 for the last year or so (in my dept and the Heads office) and although not done anything fancy like a cost analysis, firmly believe they are far cheaper when compared to our lasers (which are mostly MagiColour) 1
EduTech Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Staples.co.uk - Laser Printer Mono Only a Mono one.. but pretty cheap! and last forever There the ones they have in garage's that have oil and everything over them and still keep on going Toner is Cheap too James. 1
RabbieBurns Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 What I said was ... Also the fuser is at the top where the paper comes out and this gets so hot that in a cold classroom you can see the heat. That was it.. didnt really remember what had been said exactly. Is it just the one you have? Could it be its a dodgy machine?
bossman Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 HP2015: Proper little workhorse we have approx 15 in school and they just work from the network or usb whichever is your bag. Hightower Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I have a HP 1018 at home - that's perfect for me but not sure if they still sell them. We also use a lot of Kyocera's and have one 1010 in particular which is 11 years old and still going strong.
AMC Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 For mono I recommend the HP LaserJet P1505. Also networkable.

Proper cheap running costs too and around £160 for a network one phew what more could you ask for! besides money hehe! :) We have plenty of these and they are absolutely atrocious having lost their network settings, failed firmware upgrades, replacement DIMM modules with firmware versions etc on and they still lock up and explode. Bring back the 1320N!
Sylv3r Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 We have HP throughout the school Mainly HP 1012 or HP 2015's in the offices.
button_ripple Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 HP OfficeJet Pro L7680. We have replaced most of the office printers with these. They have duplexing, and are apparently cheaper than a laser. They are also very quick!! You do have to get the XL cartridges otherwise you will be replacing them constantly. Dabs sell them quite cheap! Or, Our head has a Brother DCP-130C which is still going well and they have been using it for the past year. They used to use a HP Deskjet D7360 and got through an ink cartridge a week. Now it is an ink cartridge a term (roughly)!
hakko Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Actually it's better to have to walk to the printer and lead a less sedentary lifestyle. What about the effects of breathing in toner from having a printer on right on your desk?
Tcsltd Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 If its a colour Laser your after we have the Brother HL4040cn with £100 off at £145.50 it has high yield toners available, drop me a PM if you need any more info
elsiegee40 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 This thread's a year old... problem solved by now I would think
Tcsltd Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 well spotted... i didn't even see the date!! Automatic pilot!!!
Number6 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I just saw this thread, due to it's reawakening. At first sight I thought the OP was asking for some sort of Star Wars personal sidearm!
