Blocking the BBC World Cup Video Streams.

The BBC have posted a page that lists all the urls the world cup games will be streamed from. Block them if you wish.

BOFH ahoy... If you block them, you will get the "Why is this blocked!" - if you give your Squid proxy a bit of a prod using delay pools, you can just cap the bandwidth to the URLs to something painfully unwatchable. The site remains accessible and many people will just assume "the internets are too slow today".

 

Not that I'd do that of course.

There was that thing about there being an appropriate TV license being needed too on the BBC tech news page a few days ago.

We can't even get the streams here, as the BBC say that we're not in the UK. Apparently our ISP isn't in their allowed list...

 

Oh well (she says, glancing at the TV that the NM has installed in the office)...

forgive me - but how can they insist you have a TV licence if you do not have a TV Tuner card in your PC?

 

Checked the TV Licence website which states

 

If you use a TV or any other device to receive or record TV programmes (for example, a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) - you need a TV Licence. You are required by law to have one.

 

Since when was Broadband any of those??

It just gives examples and i'm not entirely sure it's meant to be an exhaustive list.

 

I did the same thing when i read the BBC article about it...went and read the TV License site.

 

Apparently they cant trace TV cards...but i'm not entirely sure i'd want to push it.

Same here, ive requested our ISP to register. Hopefully they will do and not take ages like most requests. And this is not even for the football its for the educational movies on the site. :-(
