BT I-PLATE

Hi has anyone used one of these at home with their adsl broadband:

I was wondering if it can be as good as all the hype says it is.

The one I posted does all the filtering at the socket, so no filters are needed anywhere else in the house. The one you posted just filters out the bell wire (I achieved the same by just disconnecting it completely)

However, if you have a bad/long line with high attenuation, don't expect big things (or in fact, anything). Mine wasn't even connected as it was removed previously when isdn was used on the line.

 

I've tried lots of filters too, never any better

I use the master socket filters too, only I buy them from Solwise as they are cheaper for the exact same kit - Clarity's claim that "we took it upon ourselves to come up with and carry out a special modification to the BT design" is a load of rubbish. In the interest of full disclosure I've also had a bad customer service experience with Clarity so couldn't recommend them.

 

That said, their note about screws for the faceplate near the bottom of this page is worth reading. When I need the M3 machine screws they talk about I get them from B&Q - I'd post a link but their site is dog slow at the moment and they are in-store purchase only. Basically you want M3 25mm countersunk, they sell them in packs of 8 with nuts (which you won't need).

These replacement front plates 'usually' only improve internet performance if you have additional extensions connected (from the Master Socket).

 

Cutting / disconnecting the bell wire and replacing the wiring to the extension sockets with CAT5e cable normally does the trick.

 

If you want to know what the best speed will be, just remove the lower front plate and plug your adsl/2 router directly into the phone point hidden behind the plate (no filter required).

I read something about the i-plate in The Times (Sunday Times?) at the weekend. It said that it only worked if your router wasn't connected to the master socket. If you have your router connected to the master socket it will make no difference. I lost interest at that point!

Mine arrived on Monday. I've attached it and so far nothing. I know it can take 3-10 days for something to happen to your profile but from its lack of immediate respone (as reviewers had mentioned) im not holding out hope.

 

I got mine from broadbandbuyer. Being a new build i dont think we have a bell wire connected anyway. Thought id give it a go. It got good reviews.

had heard of these products from a number of sources with very good reviews. improved the speed of my line by 800Kb/s so was worth the £12 or so pounds to me

Another positive vote for removing the bellwire here - just as effective as the iplate and at far less cost - well, in fact nothing other than a tiny bit of time with a screwdriver.

Had one of these for awhile now and saw a 1mb increase almost straight away (Well on a good day), but for sure I saw an improvement and for a tenner can't complain!

All the i-plate does is remove the "ring wire"

You can easily do this yourself in the master socket and save £15 straight away. Its a orange wire connected in connection 3.
