mrforgetful Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I've downloaded the MulletMan one twice, both finished at just over 2Gb and were corrput.
Nij.UK Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 im trying the direct link this morning, and all i am getting is access denied!! ARRRRRR
mrforgetful Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I've managed to get it downloading from the MS site this morning. Got the usual too busy error, hit refresh half a dozen times and it then worked fine. Is this link any use? http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/beta2/en/x86/download.htm
mrforgetful Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Or this link to the actual file? http://download.windowsvista.com/dl/preview/beta2/en/x86/iso/vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x86fre_client-LB2CFRE_EN_DVD.iso
StewartKnight Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I got mullett_mans to work at home last night. Only took 4 1/2 hrs on 2mb broadband, and I'm installing it as we speak. All seems to be going well. The Office 2007 took 5 hrs to install mind you!!
mrforgetful Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 5 hours? I had no problem except Outlook needed POP enabled on the Exchange server, and I needed to send email from a different account to which I received email. Uninstalled it and broke all versions of Outlook. All up and running now though, still don't see why it took 5 hours to install for you.
mrforgetful Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 God Dammit. Download Died after 2.66Gb. No download manager

Guest Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 God Dammit. Download Died after 2.66Gb. No download manager Same happened here. Managed to get the direct download working from homelast night. Left it at 1.34Gb, came down this morning and its had died. Think it might have something to do with M$ denying access.
webman Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Well, you are downloading it from MS servers... what would you expect? IIS probably hit it's memory limit Perhaps they should post it to NewNova, Mininova or TorrentySpy
flyinghaggis Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Downloaded it yesterday in 30 minutes via JANET:) I tried it on my home PC and after a bit of playing about with drivers i managed to get everything up and running which was pretty impressive for a beta. Probably more luck than skill on my part though It's looking really good so far. The media centre stuff is nice as is the new interface (way better than the fisher price XP style) and the new Aero Effects are seriously bling 8) It evens runs OK on a 2Ghz P4 though i dont think you'd want to run it with less than a gig of ram as it grabbed about 750Mb with just windows, media player and media centre running. I think a lot of applications will require a rewrite to get them running smoothly under vista as a lot of the ones i tried had various issues (though these may be resolved by the time it goes gold).
webman Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 ... it grabbed about 750Mb with just windows, media player and media centre running. That's what we call "bloat"
drjturner Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I downloaded using firefox, took 4 hours last night. I think there is a 2gig bug that appears in IE. Best Regards Dan
Norphy Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 I'm downloading the 32bit version now... getting a steady 1.09MB/sec from the MS servers.
DRogers Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I'm downloading the 32bit version now... getting a steady 1.09MB/sec from the MS servers. I've been getting all day: Thank you for your interest in Windows Vista Beta 2. We are currently experiencing a high level of demand and cannot process your request at this time. Please check back later for availability. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Guest Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 For those getting access denied from the direct access link, clear you cookies and history and it will work again trying again now via firefox, fingers crossed
Irazmus Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Only took 15 hours to download on a 1/2Mb connection ^^; Just installed on a rather underpowered RM laptop (Athlon XP-M 1800+ (1.39GHz), 480MB RAM, 32MB shared graphics), default drivers worked for most devices and XP drivers seem to be working for the rest, although the screen flickers like a b***h so it seems better drivers are needed >_< Will install on an XP 3000+, 1.5Gb, 128MB Radeon in the am for a fairer test ^^
Simcfc73 Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Just installed it on my home PC with dual boot as I thought Virtual PC might suck. The look is quite spectacular, I know its been done before by others but its quite striking. Everything loaded up first time and really easily and fast but it has changed the boot loader and I cannot find where it used to be. Just found the Parental Control part of the user accounts. I used Net User /time to give access at certain times to my son which had no graphical display and was a pain to sort out but theres a nice one in vista, like setting up restriction in domain accounts. It also has web filtering built in but I haven't tried it yet. The popup warning about changing settings is good although has been annoying when I have been playing around. And the most important improvement. Mah Jong for my partner. Works pretty fast on this machine (Athlon 3Ghz, 1Gb Ram, 256Mb 6600GT graphics card. Oh and the local security policy has been jazzed up too. Didn't notice any new policies but it looks easier to view.
mullet_man Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Got it installed last night on my PC, its giving me a performance rating of 2 on an AMD 64 3200+ 1 GIG RAM 256 Graphics card (which its thinks is only 128 meg?) Anyway am impressed took a couple of installs to get working, I had to use the add driver section as it did not like the SATA hard drive. The looks are impressive, but it is still a bit slow and the hard drive seems to access for a long time after boot. Although I have one device that is unknown device, and I have not got a clue what it could be? Ste.
StewartKnight Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 I've got a 3 rating, P4 3.4, 1gig, radeon 9800 128mb (which it thinks is 256!!)
