adding an app to uers startup

hey ppl, I created a script and saved it as an application and I'd like to add it to a user's startup so it runs when they logon but not sure how. OS 10.5.x

I tried the 'Login Items' in Accounts but did not work. thanks for any help

Are you running a OS X 10.5 server?

 

If so work group manager can do it by adding it to the login preference under login items.

thanks for the reply. we are not running an OS X server. we have one lab with 30 iMacs, one being a teacher computer. the teacher's computer has an external harddrive I'm sharing and would like the student computers to see this harddrive, which they can, but once they logoff and back on again the drive does not mount. I have a script that I saved as an application that auto mounts the teacher's hdd but I'm not sure how to implement it.

You can use either cron or launchd from the command line. Cron is being phased out so launchd is the preferred method for 10.5 but cron will do the job equally as well. Consult the manual pages for each; man cron and man launchd.

 

Launchd has its own utility called launchctl. You configure what you want using that. If the command line is not to your taste use Lingon:

If they are all stand alone machines you can find the option in the system preferences, accounts, select a users and then select login items at the top of the window.

 

put the application or script in there.

 

If they are not stand alone machines then I wouldn't be sure unless your using Workgroup Manager, then the second post is the most useful
