On tuesday I was watching DVD's on my computer with no problems but today I try to play my fave Lord of the rings DVD and I get

 

Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

 

The same occures with all DVDs and I tried the K-lite mega codec pack and when i play it then it just crashes out

 

please help???

I got this with a brand new acer we bought for a smartboard in the junior dept. I ended up just installing vlc and showing them how to use that instead.

Ive had simmilar problems in the past. Just stopped using media player. Its shockingly rubbish anyway. I usually did a restart and tried opening from the dvd itself and it worked sometimes.

 

powerdvd/ realplayer/ vlc, loads of players out there you could use?

I just normally install DivX and that works

VLC, the new version is awesome too

i installed a trial of power dvd and that seemed to install the codecs i needed so its working fine
