featured_spectre Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 What punishments do you guys give if a children or group of children disobey the rules of the ICT suite? I have started getting them to write me 500 words on why they wont do the misdemenour again, and if it isnt handed in by 3:30, it gets increased by 500 words per day its late. So far it has been a good deterrant. Also if it gets to the point where it is beyond 2000 words, I get the children to spend a weeks worth of lunchtimes with me as I am on duty. What do you guys do?

jcollings Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 They get the same punishments as for any other misdemeanor which includes discipline slips, being put on report, lunctime detentions, after school detentions, letters home, parents called in etc.

gibbo_ap Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 chewing gum duty, with an old wooden, on its last legs ruler, and if they break it a colleague asks them to pay for it if they have no money............push-ups. this was only once, damn funny, the kid took it in jest too, the next time the teacher did the same thing but when he saw the kid would do the push-ups he let him go. personally i give them a shouting at, if that fails, find out their name, and report to either smt or hod

No wonder they've lost all perspective when words like slavery are banded around for a few chores when they do something wrong. We dont do any of that here for the computers, but the children do get forced to pickup litter... Chore, yes. Slavery, no! 1

Agree, it was once and I would hardley call wiping a keyboard/screem with a wipe slavery:rolleyes: Kids have to pick up liter to ensure the school is clean to be allowed own clothes day, I doubt parents are going to complain about that.
Hightower Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 It's not my duty to dish out punishment. I'll talk/shout to the kid if appropriate - but if a teacher is nearby I'll let them do it. I'm not one a big enough wage to worry about managing students.
PyROm Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 We normally report it upwards to slt, however it often comes back with a message to ban the student from using the internet, or sometimes changing their password so a teacher has to log them in (the teacher gets told their new password). One of the technology teachers gets them to copy out large chunks of the SuSE 6 manual, and if he really doesnt like them he has maths books with constant angular velocity etc in them.
deanc Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 i've made a student found hacking copy out the computer misue act for a lesson. standard procedure here is they get banned for a while (how long depends on offence) and have to work on paper, more of a problem with KS4 than KS3, work on paper isnt too much of an issue and even at KS4 they can usually draft something or tidy their folders up.

Saved me a job:p The nice kids are always pestering me for jobs like that. Tomorrow, I have a group from the G&T brigade entering 140 serial numbers into a database and then going around and physically finding them. They think it's fun. Good work experience and it saves me doing it.
grumpy_git Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 For misuse of the system (playing games etc) we ban them from unsupervised access, staff need to authenticate each session before the kids can use it. The ones who vandalise now get to spend a lunchtime with the Head of IT scrubbling keyboards!
