Have been informed by one of our suppliers that NEC has pulled out of the European desktop market due to the economic downturn. Confirmed by The Register.

Shame as I have found NEC machines to be reliable and Robust. Plus the 3 year standard warranty and excellent support has been a real help here.

Server products are still available.

I agree, a very sad loss, was always very happy with service and contact, in fact just took delivery of 20 PC's. Paid a bit more for them because of past experience of service. Don't know how we are fixed for warranty, I presume that will still hold.

As I understand it all warranty and service agreements will be honoured.

yep, major consolidation in the PC business. Looks like ibm were ahead of the curve when they sold off the PC biz to lenovo...whereas NEC it appears couldn't find a taker for the european operation.

it's interesting how NEC do however have a strong position in their home market.

20,000 jobs worlwide and over $2bn in losses for the company overall.....they join a long list of companies posting some shocking numbers due to the worldwide depression.

No loss to us.

Don't know where you've all been getting support from, but from my experience NEC have been poor.

Never have parts in stock, insist on us jumping through testing hoops, 30% failure rate, poor build quality.

Would have never used them again anyway .....
