steve_nfi Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I have a PC which is running really slowly. When you look at task manager, it shows 98% system idle. Yet when you try to open say explorer or word it takes an age to open yet task manager still shows over 95% system idle. I tried closing tasks that don't need to be running but to no avail. I've run registry cleaners, anti virus scans etc but still slow. Could anyone offer another suggestion please.

Michael Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 There could be a number of different reasons why your PC is running slowly. Have you tried loading your computer in Safe Mode? This loads Windows with minimum required components. If your computer is still slow, then it could well be hardware related. Pressing F8 repeatedly when starting up your computer will allow you to enter Safe Mode. As already mentioned, overheating CPU, faulty hard drive and memory are all common culprits for this.
