Keyring torch

I have one of these mainly to see the security codes when I open up in the mornings. It is also great for under the bench work. Anyways, our local Texaco garage has them on offer at just under £2.00. They look nice and sturdy.

Checkout your local ALDI - they had some key-ring torches for less than three quid a pair over Christmas, so there might be a few left.

 

Aluminium "tube" a couple of inches long and very bright for their size.

Thanks for the heads up - I have a wee blue LED torch thingy which is useful but I think I may splash out on one of the cheapo aldi ones.

I saw the Aldi ones but I tried a couple of stores and neither had them.

Just got the kids 2 wind up keyring torches from ASDA for £2.50 each. A little big but no batteries to worry about.

I use a set of these myself, there handy as back up lighting when i do my night riding during the summer months, but tend to keep a couple close to hand. Not as cheap as the Aldi ones, but certainly pack a punch.

Is a flashing rear light legal? I don't think it use to be which is daft considering how effective it is.

I have been riding bikes for years and always had flashing rear red lights, it's the first time i have ever heard of them being illegal. Cant see why they would ever have been, Green and Blue yes, but White, Amber and Red have always been fine.

 

Especially when you think a static red light could be anything, if riding on the road you could be mistaken as a traffice light int he distance or a cars tail lights. Pointless.

So it seems I was right that in the past lights had to be solid but sensibly, that has now changed.

Well, you learn something new every day, I've been cycling for over 16 years, and always had flashing rear lights. Ooops!!!

I keep it safe when riding and have 2 back lights. one that gets clipped onto my bag the other onto the bike. both flash away and i haven't been stopped by police yet. The front is a 2 bulb halogen job that i use to see with.

Same here, halogens are a must night riding. Sorry to go off topic slightly!

I got a headlamp variety (3x 1W luxeon LEDs I think) from Shell the last time they had them, which I find much easier because it frees up both hands for whatever it is I'm scrabbling at. Particularly useful in a dark theatre

Got a headlamp too, very handy, keeps the hands free, expecially when working in media cabinets etc.

Going off topic even further, when I was in my teens I had a James Captain motorbike. The headlights (6v) were crap so I fitted a spotlight off a VW Beetle (also 6v) underneath and attached to the mainbeam. This gave me a enough light to zoom flat out (60mph) along country lanes in the dark.

 

One night, I took a young lady to a neareby town to meet some schoolfriends in a pub. The young lady got absolutely plastered and I was worried about her staying on the bike. One of my friends had the bright idea to get three belts attached together and wrap them around us both. So I set off with this sack of potatoes strapped to my back, which didn't help cornering. We were on the darkest part of the road and I had dipped my lights for an on coming car as we approached a sharp bend. When the car had gone by, I flipped back to main beam and the lights went out. It was pitch black, 40 odd mph into a bend. I knew better than to brake so just continued as best I could. We hit the grass verge and bounced around a bit and then the lights came back and I managed to get back onto the road. Funny thing was, when I stopped to see how she was, she was stone cold sober! She never went out with me again.
