ZeroHour Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Post your intro's here along with any other info you (such as the state/region you are in) want be you techie or teacher. Above all enjoy EduGeek and hope to see you post in the future. Cheers
SYNACK Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 I know I'm not technicaly new here but as I never posted in the New Edugeek users thread I feel justified. I am a NM/technition that works for multiple primary schools in Auckland. We use MUSAC software on Windows servers along with Access-IT Library on all sites. Each site has its internet filtered by the MoE provided Surfcontrol on top of ISA servers and email is provided by Exchange and filtered again by Surfcontrol. Other toys include a scattered assortment of mimios, genious IWBs and projectors along with an unhealthy dosage of both inkjet and laser printers.
bluepixel Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a pc technician/network administrator at a South Auckland Primary school. We have Windows servers, and use Musac software in the school along with AccessIT in our library. We have Smartboards in most of the classrooms along with laptops and projectors. There is also a pc and inkjet printer in each classroom, and we have a computer suite with computers and laptops and a couple of laser printers for whole class use. It's a pretty varied job and I really enjoy what I do. The job is very interesting and challenging at times. I look forward to reading other members ideas and hopefully contributing where I can to the forum. Cheers
hilmarty Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Hi, I'm new here... I have a mainframe background (was an assembler programmer back in the 80's) and then an ICT teacher for various polytechs here and in the UK. Now living in the Coromandel I've somehow become the network/IT support person for 3+ schools. Mostly we are using SmartNet and Musac software. I am also in my third year of teacher training so I like to think I have an educationalist's view of IT! I teach IT to children two days a week too....
EduTech Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 welcome hilmarty i hope you enjoy your stay. James.

hilmarty Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Hi there Synack, I saw a mention of Edugeek in the latest NZ PC World magazine while I was browsing through it at the supermarket - quickly jotted down the URL on the bottom of my shopping list. :-)
SYNACK Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 oooh- was it in the letters section, they must have printed my letter or at least read it. Yay!
SYNACK Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Yes, in the letters section. Well done! Thanks, I'm still waiting for my subscription copy to arrive so I went into a store and had a look. I grabbed a picture of it and posted it here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/33384-edugeek-print-pc-world-new-zealand-printed-my-letter.html so that the non-NZ members could have a look.
Armand Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hello saw the shout out in the PC World magazine this week - great idea for a site !!! I am network administrator of tauranga girls college, a windows 2003 based site. I work with a technician and other great staff to give this school the best ICT setup that we can afford! We are a laptop for teachers school, and students operate mostly on thin clients. Our infrastructure is based around cost saving methods, while providing quality computer access to the most amount of students. We have invested heavily in methods to integrate ICT into the via laptops and mounted speakers/projectors. Glad to be here - hope we can share some good ideas!! cheers, Armand
earlyriser Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Hello edugeeks, just thought I'd introduce myself as a new member Been working with technology in education for 12 years. First as tech at a uni in the uk (expat), mainly macs. Next managed the network at St Andrews in Christchurch (Novell/Windows). Now got my own business in Te Anau, contract support to the local high school and primary schools. Might be on the move soon though......
SYNACK Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Welcome to both of you, always good to have more people to share ideas with
Tedotcom Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Hi Group. I teach ICT at a secondary school in Tokoroa. I hope to visit here a lot but am only a newbie. I caught the article in the PC World.

onehundredwatt Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Hi Everyone, I work in Christchurch for doing systems integration work and supporting a number of schools. Fun sites include PC School on Citrix in an all Mac environment. I do a lot of Windows Server, EBS, SBS, Blade, SAN and virtualisation work. More info on my blog: Steve Knutson’s IT Blog Pretty interesting forums here. I look forward to participating. cheers Steve
onehundredwatt Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Thanks guys. The blog is a bit of an outlet and something to keep me occupied why the other half watches desperate house wives :-)
earlyriser Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Thanks guys. The blog is a bit of an outlet and something to keep me occupied why the other half watches desperate house wives :-) Excellent Blog Steve. I have been thinking of doing the same thing but I might just read yours instead I laughed out loud when I read the part about you holding back from helping the hapless laptop user in Samoa, it happens all the time doesn't it? Last night a real "know it all" friend of a friend starting going on about how his laptop webcam wasn't working and he needed to do a virus scan to fix it, and if that didn't work he was going to fix his "register" and maybe even install Server 2008 as his OS instead, because (didn't I know....) it was much better than Windows XP... I was tempted to either offer to fix his laptop, or to drive over it with my landrover, but I just turned, walked away and grinned to myself....
deeknow Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Greetings all. I'm a "web guy" at a Uni in NZ working in a small team focused on supporting and enhancing eLearning tools and practice. Spotted a mention of this site in a moodle.org forum recently and liked what I saw in posts here so thought I should sign up. Interested to see how many kiwis are participating here, and looking forward to meeting some new faces, or should I say avatars. (BTW, seems like noone uses their real name here???)
