vikpaw Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Anyone heard of this? www.blackle.com it reckons if you use it instead of google you can save loads of energy as the black screen is less demanding. i kinda like the colours, but it's never gonna become a verb is it? it's not like Geek It or Google It interesting idea though...

So if you use blackle, your actually killing trees, puppies and making the planet inhospitible for future humans. Damn you!!!! CAN'T YOU SEE WHAT YOUR DOING TO THE WORLD!!!!!!!!! Think of all the keystrokes I've saved over the last decade. I guess really I should use aj.com and save thousands of characters. I love it when teachers tell the students to go to the bbc website and 99.9% of them go to google and search for bbc, even though though it is available via our global bookmarks. Of course it is an intuitive URL, just like ebay, play.com, etc but students still google for these.

Ah but.... the google page has less content, so loads quicker (less time on - saving energy etc). And seeing as FF fills in previous addresses I can be at google with a simple "G > return". Even quicker as it's my homepage.

I use the search bit of the Firefox toolbar, which is even less keystrokes... :-)
enjay Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) The thing I don't understand with those green search engines (and other charity affiliated ones) is that you always get different results in them to Google, even though they are apparently using Google's search engine. KeepGlobe's results page is actually a Google address, but even then has different results. Curiously, the image results are exactly the same on Google.com and KeepGlobe. I wonder how much money these things actually generate, though. Surely they are only getting tiny tiny fractions of a thousandth of a penny for each click. Even so, I suppose every little helps, as the money-making, world-dominating monopoly company says :-) Edited January 20, 2009 by enjay
